tried to address most of the issues raised... upped his saturation, contrast, and tweaked his colors a bit. Its getting to the point where its all looking the same to me. Arg. And I need to start thinking about a 'victory' pose for him... any ideas?
*Looks like my crappy light set-up is putting some wierd grey shadows on his face, so keep in mind thats not on the texture and will be remedied
Heed the two posts above me. I couldn't come up with a better pose than the one that Ninjas has just suggested, and I designed the damn thing! Chris also has the right idea for finishing out the skin... This guy is looking great, but the skin looks too dry. I designed this sucker's skin and color attributes to be something like an exotic frog.. so except for those really tough and protective bits on the front of his legs, he should look wet and slimey all over. Good luck Sectaurs, I know this one will shine
Cholden - thanks a lot for that paint-over... as you can tell from this picture, I took a lot of ques from it.
Gauss - I really wanted his skin to be different textures, so I was trying hard not to have the smooth slime of his backside all over... I tried to make it look still sort of slimey, but textured too. Not sure if I accomplished it or not.
Ninjas - thanks for the pose, I think I'll end up doing something very similar to that.
Here he is, just a diffuse with 2 omnis and a spot with shadow.
looking top, Sectaurs, it really is. i think you've definitely succeeded in showing different types of skin going on, the legs read as much dryer than the upper body is in places. the arms particularly you can almost feel the texture i've been really impressed with how this one is turning out, can't wait for the victory render!
Shit, you really gave it 110% in that last phase, I wasn't expecting that at all and I thought it looked great as it was.

Okay, getting ready to submit. The brief never says anything about actually having to rig and pose the model, just that you need to render out a 'winning pose' shot. Do you think I can leave him as is? I'm running out of time.'

Sectaurs I love it. The base is pretty tight as well. While I think you could leave it as it is, I think some minor position changes couldn't hurt 'eh? Something like simply spreading the legs apart some, or having his back leg bent some so he's looking up at an angle or something of the sort. Just a simple pose would work well I think. As a whole, wonderful.
kids these days, no resourcefulness--who says you have to rig it to pose it? so long as you're careful about not doing a pose that's too demanding, you can fake a decent pose by manually rotating/moving portions of the model. just a thought, it's an option.
Yeah, I wanted to, but ran out of time. Then I discovered I had done my math wrong and thought the deadline was an hour earlier than it was, but I had already passed it in, and by that time it was the real deadline... thats my excuse.
out of all the ones that have the gross out factor, this one takes the cake, I love the texture! The barnicles on the front could have used some work, or maybe a color shift like off white? But really you're eyes are drawn right to the big shimmering quivering pile of grossness on the back, hahaha!
Man, too bad about the pose, but you know, that stuff happens. Now that I see the final results, I have to say that I think this is one of the best. Really awesome work.
Sorry it took so long to post. After I sent my final stuff, I went out of town to see the in-laws.
Congrats on finishiong something truly awesome.
P.S. I still want to see some posed shots. Are you going to rig this sucka?

You know, I was just thinking it was missing something...
HIGHWAY TO THE DANGER ZONE!
My general is going to poop on yours now.
I had some ideas for the body colors/contrast, but it's not as good as Ninjas idea.

Yeah, I'll probably rig him up and take some more pictures sometime. Need to catch up on my work first, though.
