- Keep models under 1,000 triangles.
- Scenes are fine, if all models are low poly.

I'm pretty sure going over 2k just for a plant is not viable in most games.

You also need to know that smoothing groups, the number of UV pieces you have, UV channels, number of lights in the engine, etc, adds to your triangle count. Thats the way a videocard views vertices with the different properties that you to them. So by the time you use a 2k model into the game, it might easily go beyond 8k.
