started this thing like a year ago. never really liked any attempt to model a body so i threw the thing in zbrush and a few hours later i came up with this.. i like the new direction its going, hopfully more soon..
That is the dog's bollocks, and the rest of the dog! That pelvic bone is a nice touch, it gives it a demonic/wasted look without losing any strength. IMHO the hooves could do with looking a bit more 'cloven'. They don't look very hurty, unlike that gob!
You and your "so i threw the thing in zbrush and a few hours later" threads. Looks real nice so far. Not 100% sold on the tail area though. It looks like it's giving birth or something.
holy gonads, awesome to see this head get a body Arsh.
I hate to say it but Im not quite sure about the hooves. I guess I see the head as somehow more canine than bovine, so perhaps that's throwing me out ( probably compounded by the fact that you're calling it a hound ). Still, you never know. Look forward to seeing more.
i like it, overall its really nice, one thing is... the head doesn't really fit the body very much, the body is really beefy and the head looks almost fragile etc. the head just needs a little more work.
thanks for the replies guys.. i agree with you DAZ,about the feet .. i really liked the silhouette, but the hooves didnt seem to fit.. so i went with something about the same shape.. its still not very hound like, its more of an ostrich foot than anything, but i thought it fit the character better..
That looks great, I'd like to see it with a bit of the hooves flaking off. Perhaps some more pulling through the skin action like the face. (maybe at the knees/elbows?)
okay here is a progress shot.. hooves are gone.. and i beefed up the head a bit just for rockstar.. i think thickening up the horns made his head look more massive.. i think i might be ready to lock down this version and start the very fun detailing phase..
mmmh the head seems to big atm eh? I'm not sure. I'm with rockstar about the matching between the body and the head (Like I said on another forum ) but you seem happy with it, so just let's forget it. Otherwise, it looks really cool !
I just don't like the head. I think the spines are either too few, or half as big around as they should be. I see you changed the one on the side of the head. I like it like that much better.
To be honest, I thought this head was the weakest part of you portfolio, but if you keep going the way you are going it can probably be made as good.
I really get the feeling of skin over muscle and I like that a lot. The hip ridge looks cool too.
lots of people dont like the head it seems.. i am not sure what it is about it.. maybe i can make people like it.. it really is one of my favorite things i have personally done.. lets see if i can do it..
here are some back legs..
still werkin on the pelvic bone thingy..
Arsh: I like the head. Its neato, but the spiney thingies coming off his face make my logical brain go "huh?". Artistic brain likes it fine though.
The eyes & specifically eyebrows are pretty human-like.
The top of the head seems a little bare, design wise.
Im sure in the detailing process you'll sort all this, but those are just my 2 cents.
now the big horn looks like its coming off the cheekbone or smt, it makes "Sense" cause it kinda corresponds with the bone structure.. the smallers one do create a cool silloutte (esp from front view) but they work a less also imo
perhaps make the protruding hip bones coming out of the skin, like the snout is? I think the body needs something to pull the two together, otherwise people might think its a hell-hound dealie with something even worse bursting through its face.
I really like the way it still has some humanity (behind the facial features) while being some hellish beast, it makes it look disturbing and dangerous at once.
a rotting zombie dog butt never looked so good! really lovely details, arsh, it's been a pleasure to watch your zbrush skill develop so profoundly. i enjoy this most recent pass because there's detail at every level to enjoy looking at--very fine details, moderate details, and larger sculpted muscles/tendons/etc. really great stuff, and don't listen to the haters when it comes to the head design. this really is shaping up to be a superlative example of its type, you should be proud.
Im curious as to how you are handling the very fine detail. Is it all in geometry at a really high subdivision or is it using the bump material and a texture?
Dayamn, now that's a nice ass. I'm drooling over the idea of seeing that whole model done up like that and textured. I think I'll check and see if there's a zbrush learning proggie on their site. I knew it was an interesting bit of software, but seeing this develop might make a sale for them.

this is probably as far as i am going to take it.. after some great crits on my portfolio i have decided to work on more realistic subject matter and abandon the fantasy scifi stuff for a little a little while..
you know what slash that sounds like an awesome idea!! now that the quake4 sdk is out i will look into hooking him up.. be warned that the quake4 engine uses ati style normal maps (fliped green chanel) so i will probably do my baking with that, cause i want to try it out.. but it also will give everyone another option to paint the added black and white bumpmap for finer details.. i think it will be fun and i will release it soon.. have there been any normal mapped sdks released?

nice one arsh, you're getting a damn cool muscle definition there, looking forward to progress on this one

Beautiful work.

I like what you did to the back claws also.

You should definately repeat that rotting flesh style on the butt on other places on the body, otherwise it will look out of place.
Kicka**
I can't wait to see this guy finished and textured (wink wink)
