Your right poop, not everyone can live up to your GOD like abilities as an Environmental artist.
    Anyways,
I think they are aiming towards a single player adventure type thing. Sort of like Elite Force II. But if you have watched the shows, you would know what abilities are going to be incorporated into the game features. The shows fan base is outstandingly HUGE. Its following will ensure a huge sale alone. I think you can get most of this game's info at http://www.Gateworld.net

I say this game will rock because I, Obviously, am a fan and will buy the game regardless of its standard as ass horrible or great.

I think my mom could tell how bad those screenshots look. My abilities have nothing to do with the craptastic texture and modeling work in those shots.

Thats the worst attitude possible. The reason licenses get turned into horrible games is people like you. You will buy it no matter how crap it is. So they do not even have to try to make it good. Sort of like... say... Star Wars games?

The fact that the show has cool stuff in it does not in any way ensure the game will. It could be the companies last game with some new art assets and the SG1 label slapped on for all you know.

And you buying it does not ensure it rocking. IMO it implies the exact inverse.

Poop, you act your age. You have this interesting ability to translate your communication into intelligent slander of others. Dude, we all know you hate my guts. It’s too late for a truce so I am not even going to try. I started this thread to introduce a new Movie/show game coming out. Perhaps I should not have included my personal opinion of the game. This is a forum for games and 3d and art but what ever. Anyways, next time I post feel free to post more negative remarks. It’s such a joy to keep getting a rise out of you.

Concrete proof that a popular franchise cannot be a predictor of a game's quality...

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
    World wide box office: $433,371,112
    Gamerankings.com score: 39.1%

    Chronicles of Riddick
    World wide box office: $112,491,274
    Gamerankings.com score: 88.4%

Now can we just wait for the game to actually come out before deciding whether it's god's gift to gaming or complete crap?

I thought the movie was fantastic, but I think the shows (both of them) are pretty lame from what I've seen. Occasionally pretty watchable, but not good enough for me to bother tuning in. (Although, Im biased. I dont like TV in general)

I've only watched like MAYBE 10 episodes of SG-1 and maybe 1.5 of the new one though.

I have to say that the game looks kinda uninspired from the sparse 3 screens. The terra-gen snowy-mountains skybox, and ultra-generic sci-fi towers/buildings are a tad bit tired.

I also must agree with poop about this rabid fan mentality being why Licensed games frequently suck ass. Fans who will purchase licensed goods for thier favorite franchises no matter how useless or poor they are. My brother is like this. He'll buy any Star Wars or Star Trek item out there. Its pretty sad really. "Han-Solo salt and pepper shakers! Im buyin' it" or "Captain Picard 100% useless decorative fucking plates to hang on the wall! Only $50 each! I'll buy the whole set of 20!"

As for threads of PC'ers vs Tubboy/Jackblack/whatever...Im just tired of tubboy/jackblack and his ilk period. Its one thing to be a noob. Its entirely another to just be a consistant tool...

Poop is entitled to his opinion, and his right to say it.
    As is Tubboy.
However Tubboy(he'll always be tubboy to me frankly) getting all butt-hurt over it is just silly. If he hadn't replied to Poop, his thread wouldn't have been hijacked like it was, and it would have died in obscurity peacfully.
  • Mark Dygert
    I have to agree with poop on this one. The screen shots are not eye popping or amazing. I say what I am about to say as on honest critique I would give anyone pimping off stuff here. Here is a list of beefs I have with the "glory shots" they show;

    http://www.stargate-thealliance.com/images/screenshots/stargate_screen_01.jpg
    1) Lens Flare... oh how original. Take a defect in a camera and apply it to a game. If they are striving to be real, you would never see a lens flare in the first person...
    2) The sky box mountains scream out of place. You know you will never reach those mountains in this level of the game. The lighting looks pre-rendered in another program besides the game engine, I would guess bryce. The lighting on the moutains would not change if say a cloud covered the lens-flare, I mean sun...
    3) Is the lens flare built into the game or was that added after the fact? If it was added afterward what else did they Doctor? Is the fog legit or will we see something different?
    4) The mountains look too close and too staged to be apart of the playable game world, which breaks the illusion.
    5) the scale for the trees/buildings/mountains seems off.
    http://www.stargate-thealliance.com/images/screenshots/stargate_screen_02.jpg
    1) At first glance it looks pretty good. But take a second to look deeper and you find some basic mistakes.
    - The monitors hanging from the concrete beam are just stuck into the beam. When in reality they would need to be mounted . I doubt when they poured the concrete they knew exactly where the monitors where going to be hung, or what mounts to sink into the wet concrete. Finish work like mounting monitors is always done by other people months/years after the fact. It involves drilling into the concrete and some kind of plate or mounting system.
    - Why is there a 1940's style computer sitting in the middle of all that updated/future tech, looks out of place? Maybe there is a story mechanic to it that would explain it. But to me it doesn't fit and should be replaced.
    - What is the point of having a see thru navigation map if it is mounted to the wall? The whole point of these maps is that anyone standing in the room can see the info on it. So why take it and mount it to the wall unless you don't know what it is used for. Maybe that is not what it is or what it is used for, again maybe there is some story mechanic that explains that...

    http://www.stargate-thealliance.com/images/screenshots/stargate_screen_03.jpg
    1) Hey look your average ho-hum level. Could be UT, could be UT04. Nothing new here.
    - The detail on the pillars is covered up but the concept art. Which leads me to believe it might be kind of ugly or blurry.
    - The blurry textures on the sitting statues is not exactly gourgous...
    2) Oh wait there is something new, they photopshoperied the concept piece over the interesting areas. If you look at the conecpt they kind of stuck to it, but then left out some of the more interesting details?
    - The horizontal lines running across the tall spires in the back, are missing.
    - The concept does not have stairs? Was it too borring with out?
    - The buildings directly beind the sitting statues could use the vets and paintings the concepts shows. It would certainly push the detail factor up a bit.
    3) Photoshopery is done in this one, it leaves the question what else did they photochop?
    4) More lens flares or halo effects around lights... WEE haven't seen that over done in every other game ever made... Whats worse it looks like it might be built into the game.

NOt to say all these minor graphical issues can't be over come with great game play, because they can be fixed, or over shadowed.

Maybe they will get around to adding in that detail and taking out the lens 1987 style lens flares. But as it stands it is not overly impressive. It says to me average game built on an average piece of IP that will sell to a few fans of the serries.

scoobs, i agree, i havent been into tv since i moved out, somewhere aorund 16-17 i guess. I watch the daily show with john stewart and download the simpsons/family guy sometimes. I also download star trek: enterprise. but i never seem to remeber to tune in, too lazy even for that hah!

We have such an awesome tv set-up here, with like 500 channels and stuff, but it's still 500 channels of lousy shows and porn. TV commercials are particularly distasteful. I like watcjing news, especially the cnadaian world news thats accually 'world news" as they have different news crews from different stations in different timeslots from each major nation in the world on that channel. reasonably objective...well, probably not.

Vig, dynamic lens flares have been in racing games since 1999 i think, at least i know blackbox put one in their game. i thought the mountains looked nice.

PaK: Just because lens flares have been in games since 1999 doesn't mean they should be in games smile.gif
Granted, in the right situations they look good. The lens flare in the screenshots for this game, though, does not look like a "fitting" lens flare.
I agree that the mountains look nice, PaK, but as Vig said... they don't fit in at all with the rest of the environment - it looks to me like a miniature model set with 1-metre high painted cardboard mountains surrounding it. The scale and perspective just don't seem to add up... I think it's because there is nothing in the "middle distance" - it's just foreground (buildings/trees), then massive mountains that look like they should be miles away.
I assume this game is still in alpha development though, hence the very few screenshots - so it will probably change and improve a lot before release. And to reiterate, gorgeous graphics do not a good game make - a game with mediocre or average graphics can still be a very enjoyable gaming experience.
Then again movie/TV-series tie-in games these days do not seem to be all that special...

I have nothing against the look of the world, but if the character models seen on the show are that ones for this game then i have a probblem. I hate it when games have massivly diffrent LOD on the characters and the world they are in. EQ2 is painfull to look at with people in the screnshots becaue of this. if your going to rais the detail bar, do it for everything, not one side or the other.

Well I don’t have the time to both read and reply to all of the issues raised but I will try and offer a little insight.
Yes those mountains were created using terragen then translated onto lower res meshes using displacement. They aren’t just a billboard image and blend into the playable areas really well. Also all the fog is in game and dynamic and isn’t a Photoshop job. PaK is right about the sun it’s a corona used on the skybox.

As for crits on the Stargate SG1 base design well we just replicated what is in the show and in my opinion have managed to stay very true to it. Also this is not set in the future for the few people that suggest as much.

The only thing photoshoped were the concepts over the third image to create a nice desktop image but all the 3d parts are in game screenshots. It is flattering to see people speculate on how the shots were either touched up or Max renders but this simply isn’t true.

Please guys don’t judge the whole game just based on those few images and I'm sure you will be more excited as more is released.

And as for the episode Teal’c gets stuck in the game world, although we did work on that in game sequence for the show we were given a very short amount of time to do it in and it does not represent what the game will be like.

    Until then thank you.

[edit] Also I would like to point out it will be released on 3 platfroms, PC, PS2 and X-Box.
