Oh yeah, anyone else notice the nose is duplicated? Its actually only 597 tris when you delete the three dupicate nose triangles.

Thanks for catching that, Poop! The files should be fixed now.
@HotRod2K5: I wasn't exactly planning on making anims for UT... in fact, I don't even know how to port models to that game or what animations are needed. But, if the model works okay with the standard animations, it would be awesome if you could port her.
@Hollowmind: It would be really cool if you could make a Half-Life version of the model!
hey hey! Welcome to the boards. I like your style. The only crit i have is that the high contrast of the metal and the low contrast of the skin texture is kind of throwing off the balance. Mabey darken up some shadows and make the form of the skin texture a little deeper? Anyway, really nice. I like what you did with the peices coming from her hips.
Im not very experienced with this whole texturing business, but I wanted to give it a try.
One of the things I noticed is that with a 256x256 there isn't a lot of room to go add in detail. In result, I keep coming out with very smooth textures that dont have the crisp feeling that they need (especially in the cloth and trim bits). Im not really sure how to combat that when I only have 3 and 4 pixel widths to deal with.
I have been using a 1 pixel brush, and I guess that a 1 pixel pencil may give sharper results, but it seems like that would take me forever for a very simple texture.
I will keep at it, any crits or things I might not have noticed would be greatly appreciated!
Red Crane: cool work there, I really like the clothing design, I agree about the flesh being too low contrast compared to the dark clothing though.
Pseudo: Great start, I like the colours and designs. The 1-pixel pencil brush is definitely a good way to go for detailing 256 textures... I usually sketch in details with 1-pixel paintbrush, then go in and tighten up the details with the pencil tool using sampled colour from the surrounding areas.
For a (imho PERFECT) example of squeezing huge amounts of detail out of a 256x256 texture, take a look at the body texture Bobo_the_Seal did for his Bunker model: http://www.bobotheseal.com/personal_work/textures/bunker-final.jpg
Your texture still needs some very thin dark lines to accentuate the features of the face and changes in material, I think.
Keep at it, she should turn out great!
When talking about contrast, remember you have way more than just value to help sharpen textures. You can draw on hue contrast, warm/cool contrast, shadow color vs light color contrast, etc etc. Using all of them in conjunction will result in a sharper texture than just using values. I did a quick paintover to show what I mean. I used a warm highlight on the detail, and a cooler shadow, and like MOP said, used a one pixel brush extensively. A light right next to a dark, will make things pop alot more. Especially a warm light, next to a cool dark.

After seeing that, I think an extra poly down there could help on the deforming.. o_O;

...not really. I will look what I can dot mainly for her arms (elbow ).
Yeah , and I've forgotten to say that this animation was realized under CHARACTER FX ( little soft ,verry cheap and verry funny to use)to exporte into DIRECT/.X , but the result can not be the same like under CHARACTER STUDIO de 3DS MAX ,.....I think so.
Anyway I'm still learning.

I don't think that's needed... it depends on how you rig it.

The mesh of Your ELF is right - I like it, like this.
Simply - it's REAL-REAL LOW POLY, isn't it.?! So the mesh doesn't needs any correction.
GO ON .
funny little animation that is. not fluid but i wonder if its flash or how u made it. im allmost done with my skin for it.

Yeah, it's FLASH who make slowly and not fluid this animation - ( and I didn't want make it heavy for a WEB ),
normally it's fluid !
Really nice man. I like the bronzy bits the best. The change from yellow hot specular and the inclusion of the orange reflect light really sells the material. I like the detail and the irregularity in the edges also. Right now I like everything but the hair and the face. the hair looks dry and brittle, like female african american hair that hasn't been taken care of. Give it some sheen, and make it a bit less dry looking. The face still looks too doll like for my tastes. I think its the bright, smooth cheek highlights. They make the cheeks read like bulbous balls of plastic, instead of skin. Your leather is coming out very nice though. Finish soon buddy!
Her cheeks and nose almost seem too shiny. Hard to tell without a closer look, but her face almost looks plastic. I don't know if that's what you were going for though
I really like her clothing though. The details in the boots and the chest are cool.
Looks like you photosourced britney spears eye onto that texture JBoskma, nothing wrong with that i suppose except its way too small for the type of face.
Digging that face texture Pior looks very you
And i love the quake 3 type feel of yours qubism, but i agree her cheeks and nose look too shinny.
Scoob: heh yeah, it is a bit tiny
Qube: As long as your having fun in your spare time. I think it makes sense then.
Zeldrik: Good eye, it's all painted though. I've used a photo of britney for reference and colors.
poop after u said it it popped in my face. she looks damn like
britany spears or however her name is writte. do we have some
sort of photosourcing going on boskma? i really dont like the
tattoo ... anyone who has one of these has made a big fault

subtile vocabular that made me say words like shit and fuck
(lol). okay well ... im my oppinion the tattos could be a
lil more fine have tinier elements to it that are more
artfull that the standart 0815 tattoo is that u get in any
tattooshop.
i think the tribals arent really creative or original
anymore. so u need to push it alil further designwise if u
want make something outstanding. and i knew a girl that
wanted to get one of these things above her ass. u know what
im talkin about. i dunno how it is over in your countries
but here i know that just the freakiest sluts have one of
these and it doesnt say that she has alot in her head or
that she likes to be individual. or thinks about it....
whatever im takin away from the topic.
thermidor: If you want to try it in Maya ya can always go to Kaydara.com and get the fbs exporting plugin for max and maya and try that. I know ther eis prolly sn easier way but since i already had them installed it was the easiest way for me
Boskma: Hey looks great to em tho the eye is still a little to small it doesn't bother me. I am really diggin teh skin texture and your lips are fucking great. Hope you get time to finish off the texture GL
Qube: Lovin the bronzed leather look and teh skin tone is def nice but the cheks look like she is a bit to jolly or windburnt no other complaints tho. not that my complaints would realy matter but just thought i'd offer my opinion
Thermidor you use Maya right? well can you give me any links to learn normal Mapping with Maya? I'm more comfortable with Maya myself and i'd appreciate it. Thanks
I just wanted to say that i'm still going. It's been a year since I tried to texture something and it shows. I'm getting stuck on the wrinkles in the cloth. I just can't get them to look right. I'll keep plugging away though!

Cool model Demon Princess, I thought I'd have a go at her too.
Really lovely character this little elf; nice and easy mesh to animate.
