Ray traced shadows are very accurate, and are cast from the mesh geometry (the smoothness or mesh normals of the mesh do not influence shadowing). This can mean that if the surface is rough or jagged, you'll see these types of shadows. This will generally be apparent on low poly models. There are a few things you can do to improve this:
Adjust the Shadow Offset in Render -> Common
Adjust the Diameter setting in the Light properties, increasing this value will give you softer, blurrier shadows and may help to hide this issue
Sub-divide the low poly mesh with PNTris or Catmull-Clark, this can be done in the mesh object properties
