Let me explain what i try to make:
I modeled a chainsaw:

I unwrapped the chain and added a "tileable" texture to the material:

I know that stuff that goes outside to the right from "0-1" it will repeat the texture, but what is the best way to do it in maya?
What I did is;
- unfold it and straight it
- then I would scale it until it does look "okay" (eyeballing it...):

What is your way to handle this?
