Hey guys im currently working on a weapon for my portfolio, i was follwoing arrimus3D's tutorial on how to model the sling but im using maya, he uses a skin modifier to "pose" the sling (which he modeled flat). I'm trying to reproduce his method in maya but am having no luck, ive tried curve warp, skinning, riggin etc, any ideas?

When i tried curve warp the mesh, it doesnt follow the curve properly, its offset away from the spline and the mesh gets warped
Rigging worked alright but when i rotated it the mesh broke too
