Here's a Face-Weighted Vertex Normals Tool by Fansub. I'm not quite sure if the tool is still being updated for the latest version of Maya though. There's also CREASE+ which I think was already abandoned. Moreover, there are several live boolean scripts you can find. Haven't tried any of them yet.
