Hello to the 2D side of Polycount. I was listening to a lot of artist emphasizing the importance of fundamentals, like drawing gesture, anatomy, volume and so on. I'm originally a 3D artist by trade but always looking for valuable improvements to my skills that does not get replace by newer softwares. So here I am going to basics. Drawing everyday, doing circle exercises that I found online, using Scott Eaton's resources for figure drawings, and (Non Nude) Daily Life Drawing Session Figure on Youtube. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks.
I couldn't do a full drawing yesterday so I just did some these exercises. This one below is to connect the dot. I would make two dots and try to draw the perfect straight line from one dot to another. And try this going both direction. It feels awkward going certain directions but I think mastering the eye hand coordination is important. I refuse to rotate the paper.
I think this exercise is called running the track. First, you do a random doodle and then you continue to trace it on direction and then the opposite direction.
Hopefully, i can post another figure drawing tonight.
Lunch time sketch. Having a hard time getting the proportions, the angles and everything else. The better question would be, what did I do right. "Put the pencil to the paper" . Hhhm.. Very true. Cheers
My second attempt on the face. I'm calling this one done but would love to hear what you guys have to say. This one took me 4-5 days but I work full-time. I would say a good 20 hrs.
I'm am sort of pleased with this one since I had a horrible result with shading on my previous drawing. I did some line work and shading exercises before I started the drawing.
I feel embarrassed to just post gesture drawing but its really all I've been doing. My wife and I have been going to Figure Drawing every week and planning on adding another session per week. My 1 minute poses.
Hello all, I went to another session this past Sunday. I hope you guys see improvements because I don't. I just wanted to keep uploading as my record. I just received my Andrew Loomis book "Successful Drawing" and now reading through or trying to. Reading books puts me to sleep. ZzzzZzz.
Hello Polycount people, I went to another life drawing session and this model was tough. She was super tall and super skinny. A challenge for sure. My anatomy book just came in so time to study it.
Hello Polycount peeps, I decided to do something a little different during lunch today. My co-workers were playing D&D and I wanted to sketch them as they play. It was fun watching them act as their characters and getting some practice of drawing people moving a lot. Very tough.
Hello Fellow Artist, One HW down from Watts Atelier!! Did the pencil sharpening test and I passed.
Now I'm working on my next HW. Creating and shading the basic shapes. This is taking longer than I thought. The problem of charcoal on rough paper, I spend most of the time blending and erasing. It's difficult to find smooth newsprint that isn't giant size, 18"x24". If you guys know where I can buy a smaller smooth newsprint, let me know where I can get them.
I hope someday I get to post something amazing but I understand the importance of the foundation. I hope all of you guys are doing awesome. -Bless
Hello Polycount, Another wonderful day of drawing. Finished another HW. I haven't heard if I pass or failed my previous HW yet but until they respond back weather I was successful, I'm just gonna keep on going. Weeee. ~Bless
Hello Polycount Peeps, I figure I should update this thread here and there as I continue on my journey to mastery. I'm still attending Watts Atelier Online, Watts Atelier Live Stream Courses, and Live Figure Drawing at Concept Design Academy every Sunday. I'm planning on taking Character Sculpture Phase 1 at Gnomon if it lands on a weekend or evening on a weekday Or Kevin Chen's figure classes. Practice practice practice. See you guys on another update.
Happy New Year Polycount peeps!! I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed year. I'm looking forward to the new year and pray that I improved more this year. I decided to do something different instead of the 9 most liked. From top left(earliest) to the bottom right(latest) are my drawing skills progression. Each tile is a display of where my skills are at at each month. Hope it's an improvement.
