The level of effort and improvement on display here is inspirational. The faces on this page compared to some of the first you posted show tremendous progress. Thanks for sharing your journey and please keep going!
@jStins Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm far where I want to be but hoping that if I keep it up, I'll get close to it. I will continue to post my updates here and there. Thanks again.
Just wanna say that this thread is so inspiring for me as I just started getting back into learning to draw and I'm working on the same fundamentals Thank you for posting your progress, it's really great work!
@LittleOwl Thanks very the encouragement!! Drawing is tough but so important to learn. I'll post more in a little bit of my progress thus far. Thanks again.

Yeah it is hard, but I enjoy doing it even if it doesn't turn out that great, haha ^^;
Your portraits are looking really great, very solid looking construction I think it'd be nice to see maybe a rendered portrait if you are feeling up to shading them.
I noticed that you improved a lot when you started doing Watts Atelier - would you recommend this for complete beginners? I've got the Proko figure drawing course that I am part way through now, but I do like the idea of having graded assignments and a place to get good feedback.
Hello and thanks again for the kind words. I would recommend Watts Atelier to everyone!! You say you were a complete beginner, I was too when I started (I still feel like a complete beginner). Both Proko and Watts believe that feedback is how one grow efficiently. But with Watts, you have professional graders who gives you feedback which are extremely helpful.

I'm sticking with what Watt said, "Do enough starts and the piece will finish itself." My foundation still needs work. Why furnish a house if the foundation isn't established. Shading will come, I'm not worried.
Yeah I think the feedback is so important early on so I will definitely look into Watts once I have worked through the content of the Proko course. I'm happy to study things on my own but without feedback it is much harder to improve.
Ah I get what you mean about the rendering No rush, I'm sure it will look awesome when you are ready to try it!
@tysiu Hello, sorry for the delay. I hope you're well. I'm starting to enjoy drawing now but in the beginning it was horrible. Every drawing I created, I hated it. As a 3D artist, I see value in learning how to draw. The ability to problem solve quickly with sketching and also a great way to communicate with a team of your ideas. Only God knows, I may even go to fine art and sell personal art or even teach on the side or full-time.
watts atelier are amazing. used to watch their DVD's way back on portraiture. The Riley abstractions are hella helpful when it comes to rhythm and gesture. Keep it up!
@SSquir33 Hi! Yeah, it's totally helpful and I think I'm improving but I feel I'm taking too long to get through the fundamentals. I'll keep it up! Thanks!
stick with it. With learning, take as long as you need. Being comfortable with fundamentals will allow more freedom when you build your folio. No shortcuts allowed!
It's been a long time since I've posted but I hope you all are doing well! Here are my latest drawings thus far. I hope I've improved since the last time you seen my work. Enjoy. I'm open to advise for improvements.
Dude the evolution of your drawings is amazing! Keep it up and you'll continue to grow! All this has made me want to go back and refocus on the fundamentals, reinforce them so I can be better. Crazy inspired by you dude!
Wow, time flew by for me. This section of my life I focused more on my 3d portfolio to get a job back in the arts. I was doing carpet cleaning and odd jobs just to pay for the bills but I did squeeze in a drawings but not as much as I would like to.
There are a couple of projects I'm working on. My original story & characters and my Figurative Quick Sketch twitch/youtube.
I hope you enjoy what I have so far. Thanks! Cheers.
It's been a long while since I've posted. Life has been a little crazy these days. I'm slowly transitioning to make traditional art my business. I'm moving onto color and I grabbed a few paints to start doing portraits commission work. I hope you guys enjoy what I have so far. Thanks.
