Today is April 1st, 2018, which is exactly 20 years since we pushed the button to open this place.
20 years. It's hard for me to wrap my head around that. It's been so long and so much has come through the front doors of Polycount. What started as a simple tutorial website for Quake 2 models has turned into more than I ever expected. If we had even considered how long the site might last; 20 years would have not been on that list. Life expectancy of any website on PlanetQuake was measure in months, not decades. These days some veterans might even have to explain what PlanetQuake was to some younger developers.
"It changed my life" is a statement you see often, but I find it absolutely is true for me. I might even add on to that "for the better." I'm not really sure where I would have landed in life at this point if I hadn't taken this detour. It's had its grand moments and its dark moments. It's been an adventure for sure, but I have no regrets. If I had to do it all over again, I would. It's been that much fun.
Also, Thank You to the community. This place exists to this day because of you. You are the reason that everyone behind the scenes is here: to support you. Seeing members of the community grow and thrive over the years has been our motivation. You are all our virtual family and you all make us proud to support this community. You are the reason we have been here for 20 years, making sure this green and black house stays open and welcoming to all.
Thank you all, past, present and the future, for filling my life with a greater purpose than myself.
Happy Polycount Day! Happy April Fool's Day! Happy Easter!
