I can honestly say it changed my life for the better- 20 years ago I got to meet some amazing people who helped me become a better artist and also as a person, and get my break in the Games Industry. The mad thing is that I had no formal art education but thanks to the critiques of my peers and friends I'd made on the boards, I ended up as an artist at Rockstar Leeds, working on some of the biggest IPs in the world as a character/environment/prop artist.
I am no longer making games in a professional capacity, but I still do 3D modelling/Texturing and UI design for a living, most of those skills I learnt on here in some capacity.
Here's to at least another 20 years of Polycount love!
Similar story here, Polycount played a huge part in making my career, from the very beginning til now, thanks to the good community and place provided to us. This was, and it still is my art school basically. Wish you good luck for the future!
A bit late, but happy birthday PC! It's amazing how much I have learnt from this forum, I can't count how many times it has saved my ass when searching for information. A lot of sites in the Internet have done me bad in general, but PC is the exception that makes me so glad for having found this site near two years ago.
