Doesn't feel fast at all Andre, quite the opposite! Haha. I'd love to start and actually get to finish something, if possible, in the near future Your bust looks very nice!
Anyways,
UNINTERESTING POST AGAIN
These days I've been more focused on technical stuff, deciding the map res I'll be using, making a bunch of test bakes, etc. This was a very quick test for the snake part on Marmoset, using a 2k normal map over a very darkened AO as diffuse. In order to make an iridescent effect I duplicated the mesh and added a transparent shiny purpley effect. I don't even know if I'll be using this method, as making the tail black wasn't my initial plan, but hey, it could work. Anyways, lots of work ahead!
Not much progress to show on snek lady, been concepting and going back and forth for weeks now. Still undecided on her color pallette and items, so I'll keep thinking and trying stuff. I decided to add more density to the human part, which now has around 25k. Below are my first texture passes, a darker and a warmer one. Not particularly excited about any of them
Here's a lil monster sketch I did some months ago. Many things to fix, starting by those huge hanging tits, but I like the concept and would like to make something along these lines, creepy-giant-ancient gladiator fella.
That's all! For some reason or another (lackofmotivation*cough*) I haven't been able to finish any of these, but I'll keep doing research and working on them! thanks for reading,
I've just completed my first personal project in months! A creature for Artstation's 'Beneath the Waves' challenge. It's the first Artstation challenge I participate in, the theme was too great to let it pass. You can check the full submission/wips here if you're interested! https://www.artstation.com/contests/beneath-the-waves/challenges/35/submissions/25032
Good to see you're back Natalia! I followed your challenge thread on Artstation and I think it came out great Congrats! Also thank you for tips and clear explanation of your process I found it very helpful.
It's a diorama from Harry potter and the Chamber of Secrets I started long ago, the basilisk fighting Fawkes. Because creatures are always cooler. I'm still working on the environment, birb, final poses and texture refining for the snek. Right now I'm working on Fawkes, which I neglected til the end
In case you're curious or interested, here are some images showing the different WIP stages for everything (You can find some more on my Artstation blog)
Hopefully I'll finish lil Fawkes soon! I'll keep working on him.
Currently working on dis! Had a lot of fun making Arachne so I thought I could make a male version, like a dude from the same species as hers. Spiders are more associated to femininity in my head so I chose to make him half scorpion instead, seemed to fit him well. Planning to make him real-time but with a considerably higher poly budget than Arachne, let's see how it goes!
That transition between scorpion in to his body is superb, and I really like his neck, the long neck fits really well with his elongated (scorpion) body.
This weekend, I did a bit of research on real-time hair techniques and messed around a bit with ornatrix on 3dmax. Never tried it before so it was interesting to learn about it, especially about how it can be used for both baking realistic hair into alpha cards and placing and arranging these cards. Will probably use it to make his hairstyle once I practice more.
Meanwhile I keep working on the high-poly, I'm now focused on the human part, adding some details to make it more fantasy-ish and uniform with the scorpion body, such as spikes and skin patterns.
I also did an ao/normal bake pass on the human part, since I already have the final lowpoly for it. Polycount for the human part is 16,5K polys. Here's the low poly/normals on Marmoset:
Also thinking on releasing this model and some written tutorials on Gumroad if I succesfully finish it!
I've kept working on him on my free time after work, slowly but steadily. I've recently finished retopoing him. Thought I could maybe use Zremesher for some bits but I ended up doing it by hand since I wasn't happy with the automatic results (Zremesher and spikes don't go along too well)
He currently has 62K tris, but there are still more elements to do, like his hair and body spikes. I also did quick bake tests and a proxy texture for the body, since I'm deciding how many sets I'll be using. He currently has three sets - face, human body, and scorpion body. Here's the layout for the scorpion body:
Will probably use a 4k texture for it. I did some tests and detail-wise I think It'll be enough. Not sure if I'll end up merging the other two sets into one.
Those are my updates for now. Thanks for stopping by!
If anybody´s interested, I uploaded this project´s Ztool to the Artstation marketplace for one buck. Would have loved to make a detailed upload including tutorials, but unfortunately I don´t have enough free time. Maybe for my next personal project!
Hi everybody! Long time without updating this post!
Here's a creature I started a while ago. I want him to be some kind of fallen/damned/dark gladiator. I want his armor and body items to be fantasy-ish but also highly based on reality, since ancient roman armor is so cool and looks very fun to texture.
Will take me some time but would love to finish it!
More work on this dude! Thanks a lot for your comments!
@Kgizzi Details on the helmet were all sculpted separately and placed using the gizmo and move brush (I had a couple of simple models with roman attire I cloned and posed differently, rest were elements sculpted by hand). The holes were made using booleans on Zbrush. Details on the greaves were sculpted as well and wrapped around them using a plugin for 3Dmax called 'SlideKnit', I recommend checking it out! If you have any more questions let me know!

Here's a bit of work on Skorpio's texture:
I'll now focus on creating his real-time hair and return to the texturing later.
