The shot with the spider on her fingers is my fav, but it's not really readable, would be nice to do something about it. A closer shot maybe, with dof blurring the background ?
Thanks much guys. You're right, Texelion, thought so as well, but couldn't seem to get a good view on that shot. I really liked how the girl was looking so decided to leave it like that. I consider this project closed but I'll try to be careful on my next one!
Anyways, continued texturing the warg. Making fur is a royal pain in the ass. These are my main tests
Needless to say I'm not extremely happy with the results
I suppose I'll do something similar to the second image, but with a more refined alpha. Or not. We'll see. My main conclusion about all these experiments is that fur sucks.
Long time since my last update! Have been kind of busy lately. Couldn't thank you guys for those tips you posted, so thank you I'll start with some more fur testing in the near future, hopefully.
Aand regarding my latest project. I've mainly been working on the orc a bit! This is how it's looking for now: (Worked on the face anatomy and started blocking in some inorganic stuff)
Those are my latest updates! Feel free to give any feedback would you want to
Super solid piece you did there for the art test, and I especially love the tattoo
But I think what happens with the stomach on the orc is quite on the extreme side, the abdominals look weird when so sunken in below his ribcage. But nice blockout on his gear, you are making some sweet progress!
This is an awesome thread! Super motivating! Your textures are really nice considering you're not too confident with them. The only thing thats coming off weird with the warg for me is the direction of the wrinkles. The closest ref I could think off at a close time was elephants, http://combiboilersleeds.com/image.php?pic=/images/elephant/elephant-0.jpg (its not putting it up as an image for some reason so I'll just post the link) The uniform direction of the wrinkles on your warg just doesn't seem right, I think if you deform it to the shapes more, for eg. make the head wrinkles wrap around the ear more, it will blend in. However elephants are really baggy skinned where as your warg is really skinny, so it might not be to such an extent X3 and besides if you're covering it with fur it doesn't really matter but I thought I'd point it out! Really impressive work!
Thanks for your kind words, @JLeeD , and for that critique! I do think the same as you. That was my fault since I decided to not dedicate a lot of time to the skin detailing, instead I did it on Mari using a fill layer with a tileable displacement map as base and then adding more displacement maps on top of that one, so overall it doesn't look as uniform as it should. Honestly I'm not entirely happy with the warg and may consider puting it aside and maybe rework some stuff from 0. The other option would be just try to finish it as best as I can and be more careful on my next project. We'll see!
Anyways, here's a wip of a dude I started a couple of days ago. I call him "Nephilim"
Thank you @Cebola and @Tits , very happy you like it!
I added some more details to the dude, here's how it's looking now
and after some intense hours and what feels like a broken wrist, I did the retopo and uvs. Decided to use a bit more of density for this project, so he currently has 63k.
Manually arranging those uvs wasn't fun, can confirm.
I want to add as much detail as I can, so these maps will probably be 2k (Maybe 4k for the body if my pc can handle it)
That's all for now. I'll hopefully send more updates soon, if my hand survives.
I really like how this last character's resting facial pose is really drowsy... This character could easily play a good guy and also a bad one... if good, one of them silent slow moving peaceful characters... if bad... would be/look creepy as hell... great work so far.
and yeah @Kid.in.the.Dark , I was indeed thinking in a slow, peaceful creature when I did it, a big, neutral dude who wanted to wear a mask with a human face in order to appear more friendly and physically similar to them, which is a concept that would totally work for an evil character as well!
Baking was a pain in the ass, so much stuff to explode... Fortunately it's already done, but I'll see if I can do a rebake tomorrow in order to minimize some artifacts. Tried to do a texturing pass today but I didn't like it, think I'm too tired. Should rest a bit, I'll continue tomorrow!
haha... bravo, you did an excellent job at getting that persona across with the visual language on it... I definitely picked up on that vibe quickly haha. Also, really digging the small back story on it as well.
On a side note, you mentioned explode baking... are you using Substance Painter by any chance? if not, it could make life a thousand times easier for you to shift over to it since their setup for baking models is significantly better with the use of proper geometry naming etc in your 3d package and exporting both your HP and LP as 2 separate files while everything sits perfectly in the positions it was originally meant to be in.
The latest character is really dope. Feels like something from the Adam demo for Unity or a sci fi Dark Souls enemy/npc.
Regarding baking, I would recommend you to try out Marmoset 3s baker, as you do not have to have a proper naming convention and you also do not have to explode your mesh.
Thanks guys, right after posting that last update I started searching for Substance Painter's baker tutorials as I remember someone mentioning the same you did, @Kid.in.the.Dark . I think I'll definitely give it a try, seems a more convenient process!
Thank you @SylveriaDreams ! Sculpting is pretty fun and the part I enjoy the most. Way more relaxing than the technical processes, I think. I do encorauge you to learn !
Here are some more texturing wips. Since this is supposed to be some kind of Nephilim or "angelic" being (My weird interpretation, anyways) I added some latin symbols and words to his skin. I'll keep exploring the concept!
Once again, amazing piece! And i agree with Shayleen. If you could get him animated in marmoset, standing still but with the movement of breathing and the back cloth being moved by the wind, would be awesome. You really a big inspiration! Keep up the good work!
Thank you @andrelopes ! Happy to hear it!! I think it's gonna be a little while before I post any more art (Relocating to another country tomorrow wohoo) But I'd definitely like to finish that orc (and the damn warg) or who knows, maybe start another original creature! We'll see
Thank you @Pav3d, glad you like it thanks @tierzilla , will try to do well! hehe
Thanks @pixelpatron , I'd love to return to the orc project whenever I set up my pc again! I'll keep doing fur tests until I achieve a result I like. I'm not giving up, no sir!
Thanks much guys! Still in the process of buying a new PC to work on my stuff, (My old one could barely handle my newest projects), Looking forward to it!
Here's something I've been working on lately on my free time! ... dun dun dun ANOTHER mythological female without legs!
still on a early stage... working on the design, anatomy, colors, components, etc.
This are some tests I did on Marmoset with the high polys and some quick shaders. I'd like to have a version of her with her head and snakes partially or completely covered with cloth. I would also like her head to change into something monstrous when she's angry, but these are just ideas for now.
I'll continue working on her, still a long way to go till its finished!
not much to report, I've mainly worked on the human part's retopo this weekend. I projected my high poly sculpt onto this new geo and I'll be detailing/making little changes on the anatomy over this one
I've also started working on a snake IMM brush I'll use to make her hair. It still needs some adjusting to be seamless.

need to figure out how I'll do that fur...
Or you go route B
Seeing that you have a fairly realistic approach, I suppose you might wanna go for that second one. (Go big or go home amayright?)
Either way, I'm looking forward to the dopeness.
I feel the pain. Looking forward to seeing how you get thru this.

Here's a little character art test I did recently! Feel free to visit Artstation if you want to see the viewer https://www.artstation.com/artwork/OJN8b

I love his mask and deco on the hat. Full of personality. I'd love to seem him idle and the pieces moving a little.
You really a big inspiration! Keep up the good work!
Go for it! Best luck!
