Hello everyone. Long time lurker. I've been self studying for about 2 years now and finally starting some more serious personal projects. I'm still very novice at 3D art so I would really appreciate some C&C!
Ah sorry about that! I tried yesterday but my posts needed to be approved or something
I've been working on a sci-fi rifle for about 2 weeks now, this is the hi-poly W.I.P. I still need to do some work with the receiver and add a lot more detailing around the base mesh. Taking it really slow and learning a lot as I go. I'm planning to add a cylindrical type object in the center to help give it a more "sci-fi" feel. First time working on an original object that isn't heavily based off of a real world counter part.
Started going into a little more detail with the foregrip. Not completely sold on it though, I wanted to make it a little more unique than the M4's angled foregrip but I'm not sure if the design I came up works. I'm going to let it sit for a few days and come back to it and see if it grows on me.
Hi-poly is finally done! took awhile but I learned a lot over the course of making it. I had to do a lot of iterations for the grip and foregrip that would feel correct to me but I felt like I was spending too much time on it after about the 5th time so I decided on these versions. There are a lot of flat empty spaces and not too many smaller details like screws and stuff but I wanted to give myself more of a canvas for texturing in Substance designer/painter. I added the cylindrical piece in the center to help distinguish it and break up the shapes some more. I'll probably turn it into some sort of energy source the gun appears to rely on with some emissive maps.
Been a LOOOONG time since I updated this thread but I just finished this environment based on Raphael Lacoste's "Wind Mills" https://www.artstation.com/artwork/0XxdLK
Challenged myself to make a quick prop in as little time as possible without sacrificing too much quality. Found a hand drill sitting on my desk so I said why not!
This one was a doozy, had been awhile since I decided to focus on a single prop. I aimed to get it done no more than 1-2weeks. I was really confident I could pull it off but still lots to learn! High Poly had lots of issues which you can definitely see in the bake here. Ended up not having enough time to get more details in such as the bottom light and the side screw holes.
I didn't take too many ref pics since I was able to hold the object physically
Hopefully my quality will improve. I could definitely achieve it if I gave myself more time but I've been challenging myself more about meeting deadlines instead of adding more projects to my "W.I.P" folder.
Did some sketches the last two weeks and going for something more middle ages/medieval. Switching off of Sci-fi things for now
Started getting inspired for a project while doing it so I figured why not! Put together a ref board and currently learning a lot about late medieval construction. I'm aiming for this structure to be around the 1400-1500s ish era.
I don't really have a specific culture in mind yet, so right now i'm grabbing influences from all types of architecture.

Finally finished the texturing after working on it on and off for about a month! I posted the thread in 3D S&C (with more images) Here:

Love small details here. What software did you use for texturing?
