Hey guys ! Here is my entry !
It was my first time using the quixel suite ! I love it ! Going to buy it even if i don't win that contest ahah
Gg guys there are some great works showed here!
Thanks for creating this contest.
Was fun to join in, good exercise.
Two things were new for me, working with Albedo/Metalness and trying to make something look as if it is behind glass/transparent material.
Not 100% happy with the latter...
and by the way, i was asked if you guys can use the Textured Grenade for your portfolio, and yes! If you wan't to add it to your portfolio you may do so !
You can add pleasure as credit for the grenade, but i do not insist.
Quite enjoying this and here's my entry for the contest.
Here's the story - the grenade was old and covered in dust/sand, and soon will about to explode.
I felt like explaining a little bit about my process on this. The only thing I used the model for(besides 3Do of course) was to bake a gradient map and convert tangent normal maps to object space. All normal map detail was done in nDo, I did not bake from a hi-poly model. I considered this to be a part of the challenge for myself. I converted that tangent map to AO with nDO as well, and converted it to an object space normal map. I used ID, AO, Normal, Object Space and Gradient maps as inputs. Everything else was done with layers and masks.
1 Hour is remaining, if there is no new entry, you can probably expect a decision couple of minutes after the contest ends. I am currently looking at every texture, and will make sure after the deadline that there are no updates for those, if there are i will look over them again, so it will take a bit longer.
If you want to know right away, stay tuned and watch the Thread !
First of all i want to thank everyone for participating ! I bet you had at least as much fun as i had !
Unfortunately not everyone can be declared the Winner, so even if the decision was Harder than you can imagine.. i have come to a decision.
So here are The Winners !
1. Place
echofourpapa
The Reasons :
Very good NDO execution ! screws look realistic Grid looks good in the middle And the riffles at the top as well
Awesome Idea with the Time Delay !! never would have thought that up.. but its quite brilliant tbh.
Congratulations echofourpapa !! You win the Quixel Suite 2.0 Beta Access !
2. Place
battlecow
The Reasons:
Lovely Idea with the middle, very unique idea and i love the glowing Part ! But still looks realistic. Screws on the part are also well done.
Lots of color variation. Small suggestion maybe, i think the screws or bolts could have used a different color. Of Course this is only my opinion.
Great edge wear ! Looks realistic and its not too much.
Sames as the first place with NDO, lovely details added everywhere.
Congrats ! battlecow you win a Quixel Suite Freelance license.
3. Place
This was the closest one..
PlateCaptain
Damn.. it was so hard, i want to tell you guys.. that the Frost Grenade, the bloody hand device, and the incendiary came more than close to the third place ! A few more came close, but those were so close that it pains me..
So.. the Reasons for PlateCaptain to take the third place a the following:
Lots and Lots of Normal Details, you have a few problems here and there, but i can see that it is because the model basically was not at all made for your design.
It's Weird !! in a good kind of way, it reminds me somehow of Bioshock. (which i never played.. shame on me, but i have seen it )
I would like to see the same kind of Texture on a Model better suited for this.. so you can put gears inside etc.
Congrats ! PlateCaptain ! You also win a Quixel Suite Freelance License.
Zhixson gets a Special Mention ! Because its so CUTE !!
Okay.. that's it !
Eric will message you with details on how to collect your Prize.
I hope nobody is too disappointed ! And we all had Fun !
Remember ! You can use your Texture for your Portfolio, no credit is needed if you do not want to do so
Congratulations again to the Winners ! And to everybody else as well ! You all did a great Job and i am sure Eric agrees !
well you deserve it ! loads and loads of details, i personally would have gone with a little less rust.. but i did not mention it, because some people will like that and some won't.
AND DAMN that time delay idea, tell us how you came up with that ?
*EDIT*
oh and please be patient for the Prize, eric is probably sleeping right now :P
I heard on the grape vine that if the first place winner declares that everyone who owns Quixel already, gets beta 2.0 access, then BY THE GODS, Quixel will allow it?
Totally agree with the first place pic btw, great job!
The Time Delay came from me figuring out what to do with that top cylinder, I tried square knurling first, but after that didn't feel right I went with the vertical grip. That ended up making it look like a dial, especially with that opening, so I started thinking about what could be adjustable. I figured being able to control the time delay of detonation would be the most useful.
From there, I started thinking about what else I could make adjustable and came up with the fuse reset lock at the top. Figured that would make it reusable, so I decided to go with a training grenade of some kind. I settled with a flash bang because the two heavily slotted parts at the top and bottom looked like they could be gas vent ports(which is why they have a lot of carbon on them). It's scratched up because it's a training device so it gets a lot of reuse, and because I figured it was repaired a few times there are a couple of different color screws and a mix of old and new parts. The base color green is a standard military green, the gas vents are orange because they could be dangerous if held there. The blue stripe signifies that it's a training only device. In the military(US one anyway) these are referred to as "blue bodies", since anything with blue paint or a blue stripe means it's a dummy/training device. I made up a fictional brand name Blu-Bod and put it on the handle for a bit more detail. The wire mesh came from me trying a whole bunch of different ideas for the middle section and nothing else was sticking. I figured thebwire mesh would make it look for reusable.
Thanks again everyone, and I'm super stoked to get working with the beta!
What what what?I won something?
Well I didn't see that coming Thanks for the contest pleasure it was a great idea and I had a lot of fun texturing the grenade. I'm absolutely stoked about the freelance licence!

REMEMBER ! NO POST EDITING After That Time. No matter for what Reason.
Any Edited Post after the Deadline will be disqualified.
I will take some time to judge every submission to the best of my abilities, but of course i can only choose 3
I wan't you to know that it does not reflect much on your skills or the Texture, because i love almost all of em.
I will judge by Overall Texture Quality, original ideas get some points as well, and how much work you put in etc.
I will take max 1 Day to post the Results, and then we go from there.
I will of course post a Reason why i chose that particular Texture.
Thanks all for participating.
If you want to know right away, stay tuned and watch the Thread !
