CAY, that's looking pretty cool! Just out of curiousity, not sure if you already mentioned it, but did you have separate masks to cut out the different shapes of the bricks you have?
Just started using Substance not too long ago, will be trying to take part in these challenges as much as I can ... Here is my Entry to the contest: https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/979
Hey! Here is my WIP on the leather material. I will add the tufted parts once I'm happy with the base material:) Added parameters to go from smooth to rough leather. comments/crits welcome!
Cay That's fine, looks cool! I think I would have probably done the same, but there's probably so many other ways of doing it. Bruno Afonseca omg that's awesome. Tejay This. is. so. tempting! I'll try and join in on this after I finish up the tower.
Here is my take on the leafs, I took the single leaf and splattered it out and colored the gray scale with dynamic gradient. I would love some feedback and advise on it.
@rgbeard : The form of your leaves looks great, my biggest thought on what you need to do next is give them depth. Leaves dont sit so flat on a surface, give them some noise, curl or crumple some edges, think of the veins of the leaf as a soft indent.
Hi all, I've recently jumped on the Substance Designer train and loving it! Here's my first one... the concrete tiles.
I'm pretty happy with how it looks. I think the smaller cuts in the tiles could be less skewed and the colour of them should be lighter. I'm rendering them in Marmoset Toolbag 2 but haven't really used it before. Does anyone know of a good tutorial or best settings for rendering this sort of thing?
All: Due to lack of participation we are going to move towards having subjects every 2 Weeks. If interest picks up I will think about going back to a weekly format.
@griffiti : Nice work, can't wait to see more! @IsraelRodrigues: Work on fleshing out the form of the material before working on details. It's very easy to get caught up in details but your texture will benifit far more focusing on nailing the base. Your asphalt surface looks more like a layered mud/dirt. Look carefully at the reference or find some more, you will find that asphalt is more akin to a compressed/flattened rocky surface.
2 Weeks sounds good but maybe you could change it to a monthly substance challenge and have around 3-4 different material types that people can choose to do within that month?
Just an idea, should hopefully be free soon to get back to this.
Late to the party but started in anyway. Decided to start on the cliff face challenge first. It doesn't exactly fit the refs that were picked for that category but I saw what Brad was doing and wanted to see if I could try to replicate it myself using the workflow he laid out here http://bradfolio.com/art/substance/substance-red-rock-cliff-face/
Anyway, it's still very much WIP but I thought it was in a good spot to show. Gonna do the lava challenge after I finish knocking this one out.
Great to see this thread picking up some interest again! I was getting sad that no one would take on the lava challenge but you guys have killed it! I mean damn @Kazperstan, that is some sexy lava.
As far as I know there are people having problems with substance designer crashing on launch. Apparently its a date based problem, so if you change your pcs date to 2015 it will load. A bit of a hassle but i'm sure there will be a proper fix soon.
A new challenge will be up soon! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday break!

It's still WIP and i don't like lots of things about it.

The weekly challenge should revert back to its normal scheduel the moment I realise what day of the week it is.

Thanks
New week is up. Good luck have fun.
I just knew I could render in custom resolution by checking the Use Window Resolution to false and then Save Render instead of Save Viewport Image...
Also, amazing work guys, really great stuff you all have there

@KenJiang :The parameter variation on that texture are amazing!
@papismado :Lovely looking leather!
@Monkeybit29 : Nice attempt. You should try and get some of that leather noise to push it even further.
@Garcellano: What are you waiting for! Its not like these things take weeks to make!
Here's my take on the beginner leaf:
@caser : that leaf is looking dam sweet!

Saw the ref for week 10 and thought I'd give it a shot. I'm still working on this, just been trying to get the peeled paint sections down.
Not super happy with the way that damage works in it though, so will probably rework it at some point.
Also here's my checkerplate from aaaages ago:
