Yes, just a rough paintover as I'm still trying to work out the composition. You can paintover it if you want to show me your suggestions on how to make it look better.
Here I made some quick lighting studies. Can't decide which one to go with.
I probably over rendered the anatomy of her back, going to to fix it later along with the hands. The way she's clasping her hair looks too stiff to me.
Reworking the face and did more refinement on the top lighting/post study.
Came out looking kinda spooky but at least it will look like a finished piece once I finish detailing it.
The foreshortened eye is really a pain to paint, I'll probably just cover it with hair.
I'm not very happy with the atmosphere I ended up with, any suggestions on making it look less spooky is very much appreciated.
I can't see what you mean Pongstah,I don't feel that it looks spooky at all, she looks wonderfull. I think that the idea of changing the mouth will end up great as I see the lips would look thicker and it suits her better. About the eye, I feel that it will look so much better if you didn't cover it up with hair, but I can't say if it will look awesome if you did, so you'll have to try and see what comes through.
About the ilustration feeling spooky, maybe is just the background colour, it just depends what you'll put in the end, a good way of keeping the soft and "angelical" feeling would be fitting her in a wonderfull palace with lots of light and a place to see the sky, maybe sitting on a ¿balcony-window?
Just don't worry, you are doing great and I'm sure all will be great in the end, maybe you just need some rest and pick it up after it so you can see things clearer. It kinda worked for me, and I've got some nice sketches of my character.
I'm also planing to clean them up and start painting, so if you wanna pass by at any moment and be nossy you will be welcome
that would be the "balcony" she could be sitting on a chair or something we wont be able to see , just the top of the balcony wall and a city, sky or background filled with light.
Cool concepts, I'm not sure that background will work with this composition though. I have a very bright light source in the scene illumination from the front and a background with such strong backlighting like that might clash with it. Maybe if you have some example of this lighting I can try and copy it.
Here I'm following some crits I recieved and changed the head pose. I agree about the background is too brown and is making it look like an old photograph. I need to add more color variations to it to make it more interesting, I'm just not sure how.
god dammit you did it again didnt you.... >,<
I actually think the old face was better, though the new one is prob gonna look better when the hair gets there.
Do you mean the version with eyes closed? I'm saving it for later, it's a bit complicated because of the detail I need to add like laces on the dress, background, etc. For this one, I tried exploring different composition ideas to uncomplicate the design and here's what I came up with. I think this pose will be easier to detail beacuse the planes and forms are directly facing the viewer. The background will also be simpler, just the concrete wall that she's leaning on and a sword beside her.
I think he means the Kristen Stewart one, I kinda like it more aswell, but I have to say the chin is better now. In my case I feel that there is something weird with the mouth, she doesn't have that "majestic-firm" look anymore and I think that comes from her showing a bit of her teeth.
Also, I think you should stop for a moment and start focusing you attention on one at a time, and I think you should start by finishing the angel themed one, it is looking great and it will probably be astonishing once you finish with it, I mean... Them painting skills and detailing... Wow, just WOW.

Yes, this got a bit out of hand. Every change I make to the face changes the overall mood. Showing the teeth makes it feel more like a pinup. This is quite a tough challenge, you're right I need to take a step back again before I end up with 20+ more iterations. For the other one though I think these corsets would look nice, has a bit of techno scifi feel to it.
In the latest iteration of the piece, the near eye is drawn as if it's viewed head on. I would definitely check some reference to get the correct perspective on the eyes.
Right, now that I have a more complete image in my head of how to make the composition I probably should go and fix the details on the face starting with the eyes.
I'm going for an athletic look with this one. Can't get the eyes to look right so working around it until I get a good sense of the perspective. Paintovers are appreciated.
Tweaking the colors and saturation, now it feels a bit too warm. I'll maybe add some vegetation to balance out the tonal values then proceed to detailing. Any suggestions are welcome.

and some lighting studies
Looking at it now, I think I need to make the shoulders less spherical and more pointy, the pose is also probably slouched to0 much.
...no wait I think the promlem is the angle of the left shouldrzzz
...
and back to refining the hair.

I think for this one flowers would fit the composition more.
Later I think of a sweet BG for this comps
