Hi there ST - my advice would be to avoid too much file name incrementation (the 22222 stuff) but rather, periodically delete the folders created by the compiler (the item folders located inside the 0x06ca folder). This is a good way to prevent crazy filenames and it resets the importer to a clean state.
Note that sometimes, even when doing that it might be necessary to restart the game for the importer to actually import the most recent version of a model or texture. So if you want to be super safe : iterate the name *and* delete the folder containing the compiled item *and* restart the game. It should be fine from there. The save/load floppy disc buttons are a good help for that.
At first the name was just "Test", it didn't work and the importer gave me that error, so I tried changing the name and the it still gave me that error. Me and Keinhangia tried importing the items on different computers and we both got the same error. We've tried restarting the game and deleting the item folders too but nothing worked
Maybe upload the model and textures of one of the items for a few other people to try ? It might be something obvious that just went under the radar ...
I haven't asked Keinhangia about sharing files, but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Here's the FBX and TGA files for the head slot. (I hope you guys are fine with MediaFire)
I'm trying out Crowbar, really hope that it will work. Thanks alot Pior and Katzeimsack.
Edit: crowbar didn't work either I guess that's it for us.
Strange, Kei and I still have that problem. At least it worked for other people, good news! Did you do anything before importing the head slot or just import it normally Pior? I'm not sure what you meant by "cleaning up Dota 2 install". I'm validating Dota2 files just in case. Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for the troubles.
No worries. And nope, I did everything as usual, after placing all the provided files in a folder itself located in my usual "art" drive. Who knows, maybe it's an issue with the import path ?
However, I did notice my antivirus flashing quickly at the time of import, which is something unusual that I never noticed before today. So maybe something similar is blocking the compiling on your end somehow ? Maybe the recent client update is appearing suspicious to antivirus programs/User Account Control ...
By cleaning up the Dota2 install, I meant deleting/reinstalling it completely. But of course that's a bit of last resort.
so after finalising the sales split, and waiting a couple of days, my poor neglected cauldron still doesnt seem to be showing up in the workshop - either in recent submissions, or even by searching for it
...?
..thinking i might have to delete and resubmit over the weekend if theres no other suggestions forthcoming!
Thanks a lot for the help Pior. I really appreciate it.
After trying many methods, we both still get the same error. I even told some of my friends to download the same files for the head slot that I posted here earlier and see if they could import it successfully, but all of them, all on different computers, got the same error that I and Kei got.
It's time to uninstall and reinstall Dota 2 I guess.

It's probably just a matter of cleaning up your Dota2 install ...
For what it's worth, here's the compiled file :

Sorry for not joining in with Pipotchi's Dusa concept, we've both been really busy and the concept has changed a fair bit over time.
Great work.
