nice works mate i got a question how do i save mask 2 as one file without losing all the layers (spec collor, gloss etc,) becuase when i save it as TGA and open it again with photoshop it is one image and all the layers of the mask gone
A simple method is save the it as a psd, and then copy your specular, rim-mask, specular color, and gloss into each specific channel in another .tga so you will have your psd where you can still edit stuff and your tga.
I personally keep every component (specular, rim, etc.) into a group, and then edit the proprierties of that group in order to affect only red, green, or blue channel...so once you have all the 3 channels they look like the final texture and i save it as tga.
I love how you took the screenshots of the bake at the exact same angle as the sculpt
It all looks promising so far, and I like how there is enough room left for a lot of coloring possibilities.
Loving the gold, and the overall material definition ! So crisp, and instantly recognizable as yours.
The one thing that I think could (maybe ?) be pushed further is the coloring of the feathers. At the moment they seem to have the exact same local color than the green hooded coat, uniformly applied to them ; and while I understand it from a design standpoint I feel like it makes this part of the set look a bit too even, as they almost read as green leaves.
Looking up for crow feathers pictures seem to bring up a majority of blue images, so maybe that's a hint ? It's hard to tell without trying it though, so who knows really ...
I totally agree with your critique actually, the feathers are the thing i'm less sure about at the moment...and your point is really on spot, that green doesn't work much.
The earlier plan was to have crow feathers and keep them very black, then i noticed that from top view they become nearly invisible with the black skirt...and so i went for green, but that doesn't convince me either ;_;
I would probably try something different...or maybe more grandient black-to-green-blueish
About the feathers, although I know that you wanted the whole set to be generally darker in colors, how about making the edges/tips of the feathers a bit brighter?
Wow dude, nice bakes. Did you bake each feather separately?
No there are 4 main feathers baked separately, and then positioned in a specific pattern that i had already tested in zbrush. Just in case i have to change things i've left enough space in the UV for a 5th feather...mainly for coloring purposes
Seeing how you laid out the wings is really cool, I really appreciate it as I expand my skillset and look at how you accomplished things. So each feather is just a very thin surface that is placed, then you used multiple variations of feathers duplicated (4 seperate UV spaces for the feather types).
Did I get that right? If so very cool and thanks for showing.

Absolutely right! i baked 4 unique feathers, and then duplicated them to create the whole wing...you get less variation potential once you go to texture the wing, but i think 4 uniue feathers can still grant me enough variation to make things interesting in color as well.
The repetition is actually on purpose. If you noticed the original Venge weapon is actually an element taken from the Skywrath Mage staff, and i wanted to keep that theme going with my 2 sets. Also they have the same jewel in the center of the chest.

I will probably have to arrange the feathers a bit better
godlike job XD

Also i think the feathers looks way better now, i've scapped the old ones and repainted them from scratch.

Sounds like a bitch to rig :P
Funny enough it was harder to rig the cloth in front of the legs, and the 2 things hanging from the armor, than then wings
Time to move on the masks
