So i have not had any internet for about 8 days, but now I got it again. I have done a more rendered out painting, and one speed painting that took me about an hour.
I have gotten a job at a customer support thing, so I have drawn a lot on paper lately, but I do lack a scanner so I cant post my progress. Though today I painted this painting, took me about 3 hours.
Why hello my thread! I am quite the busy man now when I got a full time job, I am working on costumer support for an computer reseller, learning hardware stuff by the hour. But I have not forgotten about you Lovely polycount, so I am back!
This time with an update on what I am doing but only in 3d. I have been drawing at work, alot, probably around 150 pages of a4 papers. Though I cant be bothered scanning all of them. But in an update in the near future I will add some of it!
Here is todays work though, its an environment I am hammering on, its in Unity free. And work in progress.
I like the things you do! They have a certain uniqueness surrounding them. 8)
Especially the sci-fi environment, it has a really old school feeling to it.
Working on some stuff for some friends that I cant publish at the moment. But I made this today, took me about 40 minutes, was loads of fun! Hope you guys see an improvement, it feels a lot better anyway to work with art.
Even on something as simple as a figure study (Forest Home, stuff for friends) you can still work on composition and perspective. I can't tell if your speed painting is to just fit into available time, but sometimes it helps to plan things out a bit beforehand. Work up 5 different ideas - as in, do a horse study (x5). Mess with the composition and perspective - quick sketches (thumbnails) to develop the idea, go loose and see if one or two stand out from the others, develop them further, try various color combos, lighting, etc.
It's good to focus on a few things at a time so you can develop your skills, but you also need time to soak up OPK (Other People's Knowledge) which you can do so by checking out various forums, WIPs, etc.
How does person A, B, C solve the composition problem? Look at everything, but be aware that a lot of people are working at developing skills, some have the chops, some are aspiring artists and can lead you astray if you follow too closely.
Hey thanks @gonzo_3d I do apprecieate your tips! And one is especially true, to dare to use reference as I do not use it enough.
Ive practiced a lot during this month of February and I have also completed two more fleshed out pieces. But I realized that I need to just do more stuff, to get a better grip of basics. But here are my most recent
@aandbrendering Thanks for the compliment! =D I want the illustrations to become even greater so your kind words are great motivational juice.
Here is a spit paint I did today. Tried out a new approach of doing smaller thumbnails, 5 of them on this particular piece. I were thinking of a theme, bug thing with interesting shapes. And from those thumbnails I got these shapes that became this little rascal.
My poor sketchbook, I am back. I used this summer here at polycount, with my so called "improvement thread". But now as I have started school I do not have the time to update it. So instead I will only post some of the more major stuff that I do. Also at the weekends I have started doing some speed sculpts.
Here is also a link to my captures of my speed-sculpts.
