Congrats on pulling it off guys and gals. I'm so loving the craftsmanship that went into this. Good call on changing the color composition for the finals - this really helped bring the whole thing together.
Given the timespan you had this is just an amazing achievement Congratulations
The texture work is just amazing... The Gravestones are astonishing, really look like 2D assets o_o
Characters are also so cool.
If I had just one thing to say: It is sad the lighting "flattens" them a lot in the final scene I understand (and am a very fan of) the old-school-blizzard style with Diffuse / Spec only, but it's just too bad that in this particular case, characters have a better look in the Tech shots...
But honestly, you're still one of the best enrty of this challenge ! Congrats all
Ulrick - definitely tricky trying to balance strong lighting with the hand painted approach. Would have been cool to play with normals/materials more but I think in think in the end we were all just happy we finished with the late entry Glad you dug it though!
Ended up messing around with screenshots out of the 3D Coat viewport and kinda liked the look with flat diffuse. Not sure if I prefer it to marmoset but figured i'd post. Still would like to go in and finish polishing some areas but here it is for now:
Really nice ! I'm definitely in love with this painting style
I really would like to see a cartoon sculpt of such a character like this. "Next-gen" (well... current-gen actually) game with high amount of details in modeling but keeping this hand-painted style (soft specular, no too much post process such as bloom, ...) would be awesome !
Anyway, can't wait to see the polish version ! Good work
Even though the competition is over, I would love to see you guys create a game or something, with art like this, I would play the shit out of it.
I always have been a sucker for insane art styles in gaming
