Hey guys, the time is running out, anyone disagrees with us keeping the same style to the next month and the list that Bronto made of the "heroes without sets?"
Don't mean to interrupt next months discussion but progress is being made on my set for this month. I've learnt so much so far and I feel this is a massive improvement on my original set I made for the official Polycount competition.
This is the first time I have done the pointlight map bake as described in the PDF and I noticed I have some black bleeding in from the egde of the UV borders, can be easily fixed as there are a few other UV problems I have to fix.
My first successful submissions. It was an awesome learning process - i'll be keeping along with these month to month. You guys motivate the crap out of me.
I cut everything but the hair and beard - moving to a new place on monday and i just don't have time to fight with the skin weights.
I'll try to get a set done next month.
If we get slark i'll be pushing along items to match the item i've already done.
go slark!

i can see some of those seams problems, fix that before submitting, we are able to update the project on the workshop but the first impression to the community is really important.
I'm up for a PA set, as I have a concept already done and I would do it anyways.
Going to make a digital version and post it asap.
By the way, I'm thinking in redoing and resubmitting a set I made for Skeleton King a while ago, is it worth it?
if you are just resubmitting i dont think its fair with the other participants as you will not be able to show the work in progress, but if you are reworking it i dont see a problem =]

Yes, I plan to rework it, as I'm now tinkering with sculpting and that one I done only with lowpoly + texturing.
Besides, I had not much an idea of what to do in terms of style, I'll need to rework a lot of stuff.
And, of course, would be good to have some advice in the process too
I worry about Veno. There was a really good set made for him as part of the Polycount contest that has never been added. I would really like to know the reason why.
Yeah if she has so many submissions like veno and they all aren't getting in... does that mean possible reworking of their models? Even if its just like silencer? He had all those sets up there for aaagggesss, then he got a rework (colour change in the end) and now he has a set in the store.
Would hate to put all that work in and valve go "Oh yeah here is the new PA model! Shes now pink! Wooo!"
The interesting thing about PA is that she had quite alot of sets in the files that was purged that one patch when they decided to run the Polycount contest (To up the overall quality of submissions). She suffered the same fate as Skeleton King, sets just removed completely but weapons remain.
Weapons don't require a model rework for them to stay relevant, but items / armors do indeed. So she might have a model update in the future, can't be certain!
That's what I thought about venomancer sets. They may have decided on some heroes in a rush because they wanted to add more heroes to the game in less time. Now, with the majority of the heroes gotten in game, they are taking their time to polish the old ones and release new ones on a slower pace. Btw if you look at the time passed since they made some heroes available for the workshop, they seem like they don't want people to make items if they are not 100% sure the hero is set. I've been waiting for ages to make a CK weapon. I feel like zeus and venomancer models may get an overhaul.
I agree, we should try and find out if there's anything preventing items made previously for PA and Veno that are preventing them from going in. It would be a real downer to spend time on making sets if the base models are changed in the future.
the fact remains, however, that tomorrow is april. Do we wait to start when we have more info or just drop the questionable characters until we have more information? or just do what we do?
In the meantime...i'm gonna do Dark Seer - i had started blocking something out for hiim months ago and this gives me an excuse to finish it. I'm fairly certain he's safe to choose, also.

I vote for waiting for a confirmation that they won't be changed.
Again, I don't know how we could gather this information, is there any way to contact the devs about it?
If we can't get any answer from them soon, Dark Seer can be a good choice.

I agree. If the point of this competition is to make items for heroes that don't have any available yet there's no use in choosing heroes that might be set to be reworked.
Don't some contributors have some more direct lines of contact with Valve where they could ask this?
PS: Tvidotto please don't forget to add my submission to the first post. It might not be much, but it's something
Who knows how long it will take before valve responds with what heroes are being changed. They may event not want to reveal that yet. I think it might be better if we drop the heroes we think will eventually get changed.
I recall they wanted to see the progress on the forums so they should be glad if one of us contacts them about the subject. After all, making a competition for a hero that would be changed in the future is also a loss for them.
Just a reminder of Bradon Reinhart's post when you originally posted the first idea on reddit:
"Wow, that's really awesome. Please keep us at Valve informed so we can help draw attention to the winners, progress threads, etc.
Some advice:
Try to give some attention to heroes that are under-served so far (in terms of amount of content).
The success of sets tracks well with the popularity of the hero. (Although popularity can vary between updates and as Icefrog changes balance.)
Look for heroes that the community seems to have trouble creating content for. Good work can really open up the design landscape and help people think about the dynamic range of potential designs.
Don't forget about single items (instead of full sets). Many of the most popular items in the game are single items. Mounts and weapons make good candidates for this, but it varies by hero.
Mix up these approaches. So maybe one month you do a popular hero and another month you do a hero that has few items.
"
I think this is a good starting point. Where's this thread?

this was posted on the reddit Marul, i just copied to the first post so we could remember the suggestion
so in resume of those discussion, you guys think that PA and venon could suffer some changes in the future and that is why they dont have sets yet?
i think its a good point, i will try to ask them about that tomorrow (monday). in the meanwhile we can go with the 3 top voted and depending on the answer we can go for the next ones. what you guys think?
@roquedemon - sorry man, thanks for remembering me =]

But we should cut Brew off the list now that he's got a set.

Pugna
Razor
Skeleton King
Slardar
Slark
Venomancer

awesome to read that! that is one of the main reasons of this competition =]

@hopgood: I think the hat could be a little more flat or less pointy, it feels less like a hat now. The other parts are great.
@reverendK: The materials are lovely, good job!
amazing idea with the mule Bronto. Btw congrats on the dragon mount, played against one yesterday =]
Split blade of the Ascendants
It's not very good but it's what I managed to do :P

you could have said that earlier!!!
i hope its not a problem
just watched the final games, was amazing to see that both teams were using my wyrmeleon =]
Dark Seer and Veno are pretty overlooked though, so that's good, but I would much rather make something for PA just because I her...

But in that case, I think Valve should at least communicate this to people, or remove the hero from the models page.
Isn't there a way to ask them this via the devblog? It would suck to make a set for nothing.
