GDC 2013 Polycount Meetup

It's getting close to time we start planning the epic meet up for Polycounters from around the world. Who all is going this year and where should we host the event. I want 2013 to beat out our largest Polycount meetup which was in 2009 at CPK. Let's make 2013's meetup epic and memorable.

I'll at least be going to the Polycount meetup(s). I'd like to go to a few talks as well, but I dunno if I'm going to be able to swing it this year.

We going to do the meetup at Lefty's again? Aside from the fact that it got pretty hot as the night went on, it seemed like a pretty good location for the numbers we were getting.

One of the things I really hate when meeting up with people is ending up in a place that's way too loud to talk without screaming. If this thing happens, I'd love for it to happen somewhere that's actually quiet enough to talk to fellow Polycounters.

Lefty's is good but for some reason I feel like theyre annoyed with us there. Maybe not though, its only once a year anyway. It's just last time we took it over pretty hard and got loudish. But there was a drunken dude serenading some ladies across the bar so I guess its fine.

I think one of the reasons they didn't like us there is because NOBODY TIPPED THE WAITRESSES during the first meetup.

Zero tips.

I ended up tipping the waitress the second night about fifty bucks because I felt so bad.

Do most you guys get the Expo Pass? Or the Main Conference? It's still 50% off (alumni discount) today and i was hoping to just do Expo as it's cheaper and this time looks like I'l be paying out of pocket. Is there much to do with the Expo Pass? I like the courses and speakers. In the past, I've always gotten main Conf tickets. However, for me I also absolutely need to see the IGF Awards Mega64 always cracks me up:). If Expo pass covers that and I can maybe see 1-2 talks I'd be ok.

Any info would be appreciated.

Unsure as of yet if I'll be there this year. Had a fucking blast last year and would love to go again.

I ended up getting a full pass for all the talks and it was by an large one of the best purchases I've made related to work since buying zbrush years ago when it was less expensive

I'm a nut for learning shit and listening to people tho, so unless you like that kinda stuff it may not be your cup of tea.

the Expo pass is a bit pricy for what you get from it. The Polycount meet-ups and other informal events that go on during GDC are free, and probably a way better resource for networking.

I think theres a cheaper one-day pass for Friday that gets you in so you can wander the job fair, which is kinda like a dry-run job interview for practice. Probably good to go at least once so see how nervous you get, etc..

Looks like "The Man" is sending some of us Mooners again this year. I'll try to keep a closer eye on the going ons this year and definitely plan to show up again. Word of advice for those who haven't been to the PC meetups yet - get there early.

Seriously though, PC should take donations or something and rent a place out. We mobbed every place we went to last year!
