It looks like you are using one fully combined mesh to model everything for the mount. I would try to make pieces and then add them in zbrush with the append tool and work on them that way. Saves time and you will use less polys to get the same kind of detail.
Still WIP, maybe I step back to 4 a bit. Due to the low polycount (200 for lod1) I'm trying to get the design even simpler, like making it flat, etc...(it was a 4-piece shield, it went down to 2)
The idea about the shield: it was made with 2 pieces of metal and some kind of electric tornado. Disruptor caught the storm inside the "sphere" and the metal began to twist around the sphere as the tornado went inside it.
Realized I haven't updated in a while, so I'm posting some progress
Still a mish mash of wip and more finished stuff. For the most part the organic stuff is all still fairly wip (head and feet especially need lots of love), also have a few things to fix up from danidems crits. Here's a pic for now!
Thanks guys!
Here's a mini-update on the mount. Started work on a test lowpoly version to get an idea of how things will bake down, how much detail i'll have to work with and to test ingame res.
So it's a bit messy and not final. I'm going back to change some parts of the sculpt and low res to work better before i do any textures.
No skinning done here (just auto envelopes) and still missing a bunch of feathers.
Finished up the high poly for the hammer. Some of the modeling is a little messy on it, but i'm hoping it won't matter with the texture res... Working on a lowpoly now to test bake.
Thanks for the comments!
Honestly, the only ref I had was a real life eagle for the heads, and I mostly ignored it when I sketched some vague shapes for it ·_.
My fault then.:poly136:
I come in peace.
Dude that texture came out awesome is that the 256 or the 1024 your pimping, just curious?
Also you going to make the mouths glow blue, i don't know if you can but that would be a nice touch I think.
$!nz - thanks! textures shown here are highres versions (minus ingame view ofcourse)
Popped out the arms today and made some progress on the head slot. Textures are still mostly untouched overall, just some basic setup done with the bakes and masking out colors (which still need work as well).

Love the colors and design, I expect great work. :poly124:

It needs to get more specific, but there it is

moar 2D!
aaand yesterday Spudnik invited me to a hangout with some great polycounters and this happened >.<

Pretty quick up until this point, I'll leave it as is now until I can play catch up with the rest of the pieces though.
There's still a bit of wonky-ness in the bake, hopefully i can tweak some of it out, but it's not too noticeable ingame.
My fault then.:poly136:

Awesome work gents, moar!
Yeah the eagle mouths are glowy inside!
