Was there a border rule for the marketing, because i like the image as a workshop front. But i remember being suggested not to have any border-like things on the marketing image.
Also, if I've made a set. What is the Marketing image (.psd) supposed to have?
Snowstorm, I think you won't need to worry that mush about copyrights because there are already too mush things everywhere being similar to one another. Valve might not even think of that in your case
Hi guys, This is my first model and I'm open to crit as I've really fallen in love with dota modeling. I'm going to try and figure out how to make it look less wrinkled after class tomorrow but any advice would be appreciated.
I don't think It came out too bad. I also can't decide if I like it with the blue edges.
I can imagine the amount of work that goes into animating all of that.
Can someone answer a question for me. I wanted to write some english text on the side of Snipers tunic. Is this a bad idea with the game being translated into different languages? I know that most characters have some kind of runic text.
@squall787 Wow, dat airtime Animation looks great!
@vlad Looks like the alpha's gonna need to do some heavy lifting
In the meantime, decided to go with the circular detail on my Abaddon sword. Thanks for the reassuring comments guys. A little disappointed with the result of this latest "practice piece", but I guess its time to look to the next concept.

"Many items have been removed from the store. These can now be sold and bought on the Steam Community Market! Workshop contributors will receive a share of each resale of their items. The items that have been removed are not immortal: they may return to the store in future sales or events, or they may appear in the drop list from time to time"

Interesting, wondering whether they'll be notifying the creators if their items were removed.
So did contributor's NOT get shares from Market items before this update? Or are they just specifying the removed items will get a share as well to keep everyone happy?
Well I don't remember it being a share 'per' resale..That seems to be a new clause that might guarantee more revenue in the aftermarket if it's a highly sought after one. Some couriers go for hundreds, interesting.
to my knowledge community made items haven't been eligible for the community market - only the Valve made ones. That may not be the case with some of the couriers i've seen though...

I wonder if it's just the removed items or if contributors will get a cut from something like unusual courier sales.
Hey Vlad, did you record the lowpoly/alpha process by any chance? I've never understood how to alpha something with thickness and I feel pretty dumb not getting it. Aren't backfaces visible at most angles, or is the mesh planar where it needs alpha? I tried doing the latter with an item and the silhouette turned out awful

Hey man, sorry, i didn't, but let me explain.
My first retopo was way too detailed, partly because i thought that if the default has holes modeled in, i can do it too. WRONG.
After some poking around i closed the holes and decimated the top to resemble the most basic shape. As you can see, the parts that use alpha re really thin, so you can't really see any part of the other side from any of the game cam angles. On pic 3, you can see how almost flat part that uses alpha blends into some actual geometry, mostly because you can see that part in the portrait view.
General rule is that you alpha only the parts that will hide the "hole". The capes work that way, by the time you rotate it to see the gap between two sides, one is already invisible, and the other one already whos, thus fooling the eye that cloth is just thin.
Interestingly, one of the BH shuriken use that trick, the sawblade on is actually just circular thing with the alpha on the edges, but due to how thin the edges are, you never really see this.
You can show me the model you're having trouble with, i'm sure we can think something out. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanation! Much easier to understand now. The item was actually my first dota item. I designed a skywrath staff with wings and the only way I seemed to be able to pull it off was to just alpha the entire wings. I remade it since the design was pretty weak, but always wondered how to pull off detailed wings with thickness. Foxclover posted a similar idea with his skywrath staffs, so hoping to see that one made so I can see how its done :>
Congrats to everyone getting something in the First Blood update!
I've been working on an OD set slowly, hoping to finish it up soon though. Got my bakes done (except weapon) in the last couple days. Textures are really early and no weapon yet, but here's a wip.
Hi everyone!
Here is another WIP of my Pumkin courier. Broom will be used in flying version. I've done the texture and rig, so animation will be ready in next few weeks. Hope you like it:)

- The "Wallpaper" for the store?
- The "Icon" to the workshop?
- something else?
I've read VALVE's text alredy so no need to link this: http://www.dota2.com/workshop/requirements#marketing
Thanks in advance!

Something still bugging me about the arm bracers.

As far as I know, I think only Treant Protector has an english phrase in his body,
"Riki was here". But its in a really hard place to read.
My hope is to have this in the workshop by the weekend
