Hi there guys! I have a question here for Paul . Could you please tell how did you make such clean and even seam lines like on a picture? I hope you are not doing them by hands o_O. .
These were made in 3ds max first, which allowed me to make creases easily. But I did some in zbrush using the following method:
Mask your edge loop with zmodeler
With transpose selected Crtl + scale the loop so it pushes along the vertex normal
I think you have to distinguis between walls present "inside" and "outside" the grid like so:
While choosing the orange grid (like you did) with walls on the grid lines and use smalle edge "fillings" or use the orange grid an having the walls in the center of the grid to have some more "substance" to handle. On the outside on this inside walls now you maye position some outside walls if you want using the same technic. So "the grid" just has to be choosen on the circumstances.
It is standard procedure to deny embargoed/warfaring countries and or areas access to dual-use items/ non listed dual-use goods.
3D Software can fall into the above mentioned dual use categories.
When you can´t ensure its not falling into the hands of the other side, it might be ruled to deny it to both sides.
ZBrush can be used for mold tooling, has its uses in CNC and surface machining, for the usage with filamentary materials.
DCC tools can thus easily be used or repurposed into being useful tools for warfare.
Many 3D programs and hardware products have stipulations that it can´t be used for war purposes.
Sometimes you can obtain a separate license for military purposes with a lot of vetting and additionally government approvement.
Maxon/ Nemetschek Group sells multiple DCC tools not only ZBrush and is
using payment systems which have to adhere to the set rules of
embargoes. that also goes the other way, VISA and Mastercard also put thier rules on those which use thier payment systems.
It is Imo not shady practice, more being cautious and adhering to the law be it international law or within the EU.
Всем привет! Решил сделать ленивый Hand-Paint: просто взял чужой рисунок, создал 3д модели под него и перенес рисунок на модели постоянно исправляя артефакты (:
- Hi all! I decided to make a lazy Hand-Paint: I simply took someone else’s drawing, created 3D models for it and transferred the drawing to the model, constantly correcting artifacts (:
the walls in the sims most likely use a system where a mesh is chosen based on what's next to it .
We use a similar system in our games but it's not centered on the grid and instead we support inside and outside - that increases the number of wall meshes you need but its still manageable
if you're laying this stuff out by hand then I would agree with @Benjammin - centring on the grid and using corner pieces is the least work overall
We had a bit of a forum outage yesterday, but it should be all fixed now. Let us know if you have any troubles.
Higher Logic Vanilla, who writes the code our forum is running on, deployed an update yesterday which had a temporary database failure. So you may have seen an error page.
With modularity, everything gets much simpler if you centre your walls on the grid line (of whatever your grid size is, ie: 3x3m). They should be flush (no overlap) with each other when laid out in a line. You will need a piece to cover the gap in the outer corners, but the inner corners will overlap and take care of themselves. If you need to have the internal grid perfect the same guidelines apply, you just need a piece to cover internal corners as well. End of the day, you're either going to have overlapping somewhere (or a ton of extra pieces to cover all configurations), so take that overlap into account when you model your assets.
