Oh I see - yeah mapping gradients is excellent too, lots of fun tricks there as well especially for metals and organics.

Towerborne looks fantastic, it's such a treat to see studios embracing techniques clearly inspired by BOTW and Arcsys. And it certainly makes sense coming from the makers of Banner Saga. Very cool.

"Electronic Arts Inc. is laying off hundreds of workers and canceling a Titanfall game that was in development at its Respawn Entertainment subsidiary.

Between 300 and 400 positions were eliminated, including around 100 at Respawn, according to a person familiar with the cuts.

“As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth,” Justin Higgs, a spokesman for the Redwood City, California-based company, said in a statement.

The canceled project, code-named R7, was an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe, according to people familiar with its development. It was not close to being released.

In a post on social media, Respawn said it "made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments.” The other project referenced in the statement was canceled earlier this year, the people said.

Respawn is known for the Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi titles, and the company said it would continue working on the next Jedi game as well as new seasons and an overhaul for Apex Legends.

Earlier this year, EA reduced its bookings estimate for the fiscal year following the miss of its latest soccer game, EA Sports FC 25. The company also shrunk subsidiary BioWare following the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which it said missed sales expectations by 50%."

Hi! First of all, I think your portfolio work is great! The art style is very charming and having the 80lvl and Games Artist articles are great additions. Your portfolio work is consistent, however I would say that the art style is very unique and specific. Something that I realized, as an artist working for a studio is that you will often be expected to work within an art style that either already exists or is otherwise predefined. In your work I only see an art style that is specific to you, I would recommend for your next piece to try and match the art style of a game that really inspires you! This will show both variety and flexibility, and when I was applying for jobs in the indie space this really helped to show employers that I could adapt to whatever they threw at me. Everything else is looking good to me, you obviously have the skills, and you seem to enjoy what you're doing!

@pior atm its just straight up materials applied per color/polygon. i was thinking of doing squares with gradients for the bunch of colors to do, so i have a bit of shading variety and can pop some of the triangle shapes more without making the surface overall bumpy to push them more in shading.

for the shading not sure yet, it will not be flat i think, i would love to get some funky colorful shading that fits the bold color choices of the original uniforms. Especially on the metal and glossy parts, bold rimlight, more reflection variation. Right now its just good old max default material, nothing complicated.

I need to test once i have a full character in place. but yeah definitely wanted to put it into either one sheet or using texture coordinates to have like a layered material setup so stuff can be exchanged easily. Towerborne is done this way, a few UV quadrants per character with tweakable parameters per quadrant/layer. would be cool to try some even bolder more neon color choices.
