I get the impression that this is some wannabe project by some 14 year old's who don't have the faintest clue about this stuff or what they're doing wrong. I would be shocked if this was anyone over 18. It's just sloppy!
Yeah you should have added more segments to that scope if this is just a portfolio piece, it's really letting your model down IMO. 18-24 sides would be fine. You can also darken the wooden part of the gun. ^^
started work on a max normal manipulation modifier(see the prototype) uses a simplified ( 18 ) vector field to modifier an objects normals, though I'm struggling for a suitable snappy name (i already use theNormalizer for something else :poly118: )
im serious btw. BFG 9800GT here if you need it, you just gotta pay for shipping. it was used for about 18 months before i upgraded my machine, and it works just fine. never been overclocked or anything.
I dunno. 18-20 sides is usually what I have on my scopes. You'll really be able to tell that it's low poly right away with only 16. I would definitely consider putting a few more sides on.

personally, I come from a Broadcasting background so over 18 years of being use to Avids and ProTools. ( still have an quadra 900 with original nubus Avid hardware ) ( tho I did migrate away from macs )
anything thats got a cylindrical shape (pipe, barrel, magazine, main body) all have 18 sides. The Pipe is just more condensed together to give it a more rounder look since itll be part of the major visual in the POV
