I'm 99% sure those nasty edges are due to having a hard edge on your low poly model without splitting up the UVs. What happens is you get the normals interpolating from one extreme to the other, causing about a 1 pixel line of nasty in your normal map. Always split your UVs whenever you split your smoothing.

since I had picked up Vista when it came out, I pre-ordered the win7 pro upgrade for $99. Will probably pick up a second full retail version later though. Very nice OS for me to playin mah games on. Only just installed the windows xp mode nonsense. Haven't tried to fiddle with programs through it yet.
