I would recomend you looking into the addon "modifier list" https://blenderartists.org/t/modifier-list-1-3-1-improved-lattice-other-stuff/1147752 It allows you to add the modifier with a gizmo on the vertex you have selected much more easily
Awesome talk, thank you so much for sharing! You can get the spherified Cube in Maya by taking a default cube, selecting all the edges, beveling, pushing the fraction to 1 and then upping the segments btw. Just make sure you merge the verts afterwards.
There's something funny about your Scene/Layer explorer. Selection and Cloning is super slow with it open. Go to Tools | Manage Local Explorers and delete all that noise. Then you can open the Global Layer Explorer from the main toolbar. Now everything is snappy for me.
I'm not 100% clear on what you're trying to achieve, but you can separate things in 3ds max to make it easier to select specific parts. You can seperate models into seperate parts, and apply different materials(which separates them into different uv sets)
In the Object Data there is an Auto Smooth option which let you select the Phong angle of the mesh. But I think it's only visually, I haven't tried exporting the mesh to see if it retains the settubgs To actually edit the normals you probably need the Blend4Web Add-on pack.
@Stachmo You could perhaps create some basemeshes that have really good topology and then use a shrinkwrap modifier to project your base mesh onto the highpoly. Then use soft selection to move the basemesh to fit the highpoly better. Maybe something like that may help?
I was having an issue with UVs not matching up in Photoshop after sending out a UV snapshot and came across this thread. Ended up fixing it by selecting UV range 0 to 1 instead of entire range when exporting the snapshot. Hope this helps someone else.
I wouldn't get too discouraged. There's a chunk of the audience that will downvote anything not historical. The categories were defined to break out of that box and see how creative people could get. We're working on options to allow players to select what they prefer to make everyone happy... :)
Definitely did a great job selecting your best work from your portfolio. Overall it looks really solid and easy to navigate. -I also like how you linked your Artstation if people want to see more of your work. Well done!
there is a max front and back distance in the bake settings, just try increasing it a little bit that should fix it. Other possibility is your normals are flipped on the handles in max, are they a darker colour when you select them? I think its probably the first issue though.
