So the game that I have been working on has finally seen the light of day at AVCON, a local anime and videogame convention. Despite being at an incredibly early stage and having no real gameplay, it was pretty well received which makes me think taking it further would be a good idea. This was the final character model for…
You can alter the properties of any polygon operation after applying it. The concept of "History" in Maya is quite similar in some ways to the modifier stack in Max. So to edit the "thickness" (local translate Z) of an extrude after applying it: With the object selected open the channel box and under the "Inputs" heading…
Hey all, Thanks for the feedback, it all feels totally fair! So I went ahead and removed the speed sculpts and illustration from my portfolio site. I guess since I am just starting out I was concerned about having a large enough volume of work, but I agree that the whole picture my portfolio paints is stronger now that I…
I highly, highly suggest you pick up a copy of 'How to write a Damn Good Novel' and 'How to write a Damn Good Novel II'. Also, if you're suffering from grammar woes, pick up a copy of 'Sin and Syntax'. The 'How to write a Damn Good Novel' series are exceptionally well written. Not only is the series an entertaining read,…
First you had to get red, green, and blue pigments. I usually used grass or local berries found around my yard. During the winter it had to be blood. So for something like a barn, you'd shove some toothpicks and blood into your floppy disc drive and MS Paint would do the rest. A lot of texture artists went to jail after…
I guess at one point at least everyone tries to find a good solution for this issue. There a couple of ways to do this, depends a bit on the situation and surrounding geometry. Hope quick explanation is understandable, no images at hand right now. A) Rotate 1. make a loop cut where the corner is supposed to be 2. rip that…
This entire post is amazing TeeJay. I don't regret my path or decision to become a professional artist but man... as bitter as it is... I agree with alot of what you said. I remember just after high school I was in a small local art show. I was standing next to my work and this old man came up and complemented it. He asked…
<--37 been working at a game company for 2 years before I left a couple months ago. Although, it's definitely a 'young man's' game. To find jobs, you'll hop around the country per project. Lots of people find jobs for years and years at a time but many do not and will move to where the job takes them, if you are married or…
When you post something on the internet, you make it public for the entire world to see. Would you post a personal add in the local newspaper with your full name looking for hot, gay sex, and then be surprised when the you can't get a job at the Harley shop? Is it "right"? That isnt really the point, its just how the world…
Yea I agree, either the scale for the mesh or the bones needs to be reset. If its the mesh, Xform would do the trick but its a bit like using a nuke to kill a fly, Hierarchy Tab > Reset Scale then reapply skin would probably work just fine without going for the big guns and risking reorienting the pivot to some undesirable…
