what your looking for is called a detail map..... some interesting stuff on blending in the detail map here other considerations are to use a second mapping channel for the detail map (otherwise it could be baked into the base map ;) ) , you can modulate the effect either with an alpha on the base or vertex color/alpha...…
I'll be making a long bus trip soon (Krakow to Munich, using Flixbus), and was thinking of taking my laptop and mouse with me to try make some 3D while traveling. I've never done this, and it probably won't be the most comfortable, but I wanted to give it a try nonetheless. Does anyone know a stand or platform to place…
Hey all take a look at this beautiful game http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1400657451/afterland They are really close in making the funding goal, it would be really nice if you guys could pass the word around for anyone you think might be interested! Cheers!
Here's a quick way to to it procedurally in Max using pflow, it might work for you (if you're using max :P) : Build a couple tiny pebble models of various sizes. Convert to editable poly and combine them into a single object using attach. You can unwrap and texture them if you want, it may help for baking later. Throw down…
I'm taking some design assumptions to this, but I feel this applies to character design as well. Choose designs well. Don't just do something because you think it's cool. You should try to recognize why something is cool. And when I say design, I mean make sure whatever you make has good composition, lighting, gestural,…

Poly by poly. I am using polydraw from polyboost so I can draw directly onto the meshes i import from zbrush. Then just…
From what I can tell and what I've read, you'll get better results by mirroring horizontally. I don't think you should attempt to mirror both horizontally and vertically at the same time like in your latest examples because vertically just does not work well at all. If you look at your new examples the horizontal mirroring…
Hi all, I've been experimenting with some technqiues for making titale textures. I have made some square tilable textures using boxes and offseting them 256. This works well. To see/test if the tilling works. Now I have bricks that have been placed on the grid (16) and vertex snapped to getther. Only these bricks are 45…
Thank you so much to everyone for the feedback and comments and help! I am new to Polycount and you guys have been so extremely helpful. You have no idea how instrumental it is to have feedback on something when it's just you sitting in your apartment modeling away.. lol Anyways... here is the latest screengrab. I decided…
Actually, I'm not really sure if I'm making any sense to myself at the moment. Might have stayed up for a bit too long. I just had a look at my own latest wooden sculpt and realized I sculpted it in myself :p What I meant though, is that when taking a look at a lot of photos of wood, which would be used as a base for the…
