Well I would normally do that but this is for a class project that I need to have a 1080p render of using mental ray with a minimum 3 light set up. I use the real time viewport shader to quickly get an idea of what it is going to look like at the moment. Unfortunately I do need to find a way to get a decent shader setup…
I haven't tried it but make sure your rays aren't going out too far when you invert everything. They would need to terminate without hitting anything so it thinks it can see the sky before it hits the other side and gets occluded. If you had infinite length AO rays inverted baking would give you a fully black map.…
I'd suggest rendering out your objects with with mental ray (v-ray if you have it) and some nice lighting setups that create nice shadows. Also don't underestimate the importance of a nice clay shader. http://www.undoz.com/ I follow the idea above to get this one for my dude.…
Thanks guys, i've been getting the same type of feedback about the jerky camera from others. Problem is the models dont shine to their full potential in Maya hardware and i cant seem to get mental ray to render normals correctly in Maya 2009 :( , otherwise I would just render smooth turntables in mental ray. I'll post…
I was talking to an engineer at work and he told me TI (Texas Instruments) informed him that they have a very low yield rate on all new chip manufacturing. It's expected. As they refine techniques, the yield gets better and gets to near 99% yield eventually. I think the blu-ray is the bigger problem. They should have…

Ultimately it's up to you on whether or not you want to continue on it, but I don't see why you would have to throw away your work, after all super low-poly is a style onto itself these days besides also working well with the mobile devices. Heck, you could easily up the resolution a bit if you wanted since you've already…
So here is my problem. My problem is the areas circled in red. I just haven't been able to get them to render clearer. I have tried adjusting the cage and raising the quality but nothing has worked. I don't think that raising the ray count more will help. I just think that it will make the blue area better. I currently am…
Hi polycounters, does anyone know of any tips to increase rendering speed for 3ds max using just a default sky light and 20 shadow rays. It seems to take for ever to render even the most basic of scenes. I have no other lights set up in the scene and Im using noting but difuse bitmaps for textures. Other than lowering the…
