Thanks a lot guys, Ive tried MoPs first method, and while it worked on the floating geo, it didnt work on the indent parts. So what I tried next was to recreate the indents as floating geo, I figured since it did the trick for the flaoting screws, it might work here too but this didnt do the trick either. Probably you are using the flat color material, or you are in the flat render mode. Change material from the material icon on the left, and/or go to the menu bar, "render", and activate the "preview" button. -
Help with animating a cone unfolding into a flat surface using MAYA
Any help would be much much appreciated with helping me work out how to animating a truncated cone unfolding into a flat surface. To use for sheet metal development. I can't find anything to point me in the right direction. I'm using maya or 3d max. Thanks. -

New tree! I'm at 640 tris so far, before foliage alpha planes. In the end I would like it to be no more than 800 tris because I'm using 256 x 256 textures again. And question: the little floaty branch that I made, do you think you will see that it's floating through my foliage? Should I connect it down? Remove it entirely?… -

3DS Max -- UV 'flat mapping' based on smooth groups?
Hello! Has anyone come across a method or script that will allow someone to quickly flat map UV's based on the meshes smooth groups? So rather than an angle threshhold, the flap mapping creates UV islands based on your meshes smooth group? Possible? Done before? Any info on this would be appreciated. Thank you! -
