I understand what you are talking about. In Unreal there is a thing call "Crack free displacement" that solves this problem. but I don't see any other software could do this yet.

You need to reduce the frontal distance. If reducing it doesn't allow you to solve the issue without causing other issues in other areas, you may nbeed to use a cage for baking.
We've found the cause of the problem but not yet a solution. It's the FOV on the weapons. If it's disabled the particles looks right but the weapons doesn't, so we have to try and solve that somehow. Thanks for the help though
Sorry for the long reply time. If you've not solved your issue yet, could you post a snapshot of your UVs from Maya? That might help clear some things up.
