While that parts true in that you don't need to see a real life counterpart for everything/reference is fine, I will say that if you apply to a traditional art school you'll find professors can indeed tell a difference in whether or not a student or applicant drew an object from a photo. They usually would rather see…
From a technical standpoint, why does PUBG have such low texel density? I just notice that compared to other FPS games like Destiny, PUBG doesn't look that great texture wise. Is it cause the world is huge? But can't you just not render worlds at a certain distances so all your close assets can have same texel density?
I got quite frustrated doing and redoing the leg. I never quite get the knees right, and when they're wrong, it messes the whole thing up. I probably need to do some isolated studies of the knees by themselves. So, in order to be productive while being stuck on that, I did the arms in my free time today. Right hand side is…
Cool. 3dcoat once was my favorite soft for materials . Not sure why it all still look so complicated although. I would prefer just a single node flow and layers just as an ability to quickly switch on and off certain node brunches. Also very much hope the base noises are not only UV projected or triplanar blurry . A true…
@Radiance80 Welcome to Polycount. Consider checking out the forum information and introduction thread. Why something is modeled one way in one example and differently in another often comes down to the specific technical limitations or requirements of each project. Both approaches are used to optimize a specific aspect of…

Hello, I wanted to asked you this because it happens to me several times already and I'm really confused. I was playing with levels when suddenly I realised my grass is inverted. I had like 5 similar situations already, with all materials I've made. Why SD randomly invert my masks, output or whatever, and more important…
Yes. This is why studios have very tight control on software upgrades. A small team tests the new version thoroughly before allowing the rest of the studio to upgrade. That's why studios are often a couple versions behind the latest release. And only upgrade periodically, minimize risk.
Is there a reason why that is? You see new cool Max viewport shaders popping up from month to month, but basically one good Maya shader, Kodde shader. Is it easier to script for Max or is it just that all the good scripters use Max?
i am thinking now that since a lot of studios seem to be using scans( even full body scans now) for realistic characters, why bother learning to zbrush/texture heads and bodies. Ok, there is stylised stuff you could be doing, but in terms of realistic work, the only fun you are going to have is in maybe setting up the…
