I use a suite of scripts called Ninja Dojo, which isn't free, but has a script for straightening UVs (which is what I meant to say in the first place). I believe nightshade UV editor also has a function like this, and it is free.

I've tried some of the normal thief scripts with 3ds max 2018 but some don't work and others cause crashes. Has anybody got a script that works with 3ds max 2018 that i can use to transfer normals from a sphere to my tree branches ?
Anyone know of a good solid script to be able to do this like in max? im not a max user.....not for lack of trying to learn it on the side though, but i want to be able to vert paint like in max, i found this script on but havent tried it, wanted to know if anyone knew of anything better?…

Ok, I found the issue. My scene is in meters and the script assumes centimeters. So it was working - it was just moving the vertices 100 times too far. Now I just need to track down how to make the script run Working Unit agnostic.
