I think what Poir is getting at is that, the edges themselves don't have much to define them from the rest of the shape when you take a straight-on shot (what RTT does) of the tread there isn't much of a chance that it will pick up the inner sides of the tread. So it looks like one smooth surface. The only real reason you…
Greetings. I would like to ask your professional opinion about such subject... Here are several item icons from one old game. From your perspective - are they drawn by hand (pixel art, etc) or rendered from the 3D model? Just for comparison - this is what i have got by rendering their ingame 3D models - images somewhat…
Well, that's simply how Shadows/Highlights operates - basically working as an edge detection filter, similarly to Unsharp Mask. Instead you need to use methods affecting all pixels the same : Levels, Brightness/Contrast, Curves, and so on.

My very first fan art from one of my favorite game of my childhood. At first I wanted to do a remake of the original picture you see when you load the game, but it felt empty and looked dull, so I decided to go further. I've put Twinsen into a situation of a matter of life and death. He get chased by a cloned soldier and…
Hey! I've been working on my game project for over a year and a half now but i never had enough people to help me with it, that's why I'm writing this thread. The game is a 3D stealth anime style game about a 24 year old woman who one day found her brother shot in the head when coming back from work. She then decides to…
Is there even such a thing? I don't need an explanation of what it is, I don't need to know that nothing is perfect and everything should have wear and tear (to some degree blah blah). As in a lot of tutorials for texture creation just make the texture and then say "lets scratch it up by overlaying this texture with some…
Hi there! My name's Francesco Segala, I'm 23 and I try to be a 2d/concept artist with an architecture background as that's what I studied. Right now I'm working on a pixel art tribute to action rpgs such as Monster Hunter, it's called Hunter's Tale and a demo is due this september. I made a 40 page mini artbook about the…
Hello everyone, So i've ran into this issue and i cant seem to find a way to get rid of it. What happens is a weird seam shows up on my normal map edge and i cant find a logical explanation for why its happening, from what i can tell the maya transfer map engine misses a couple of pixels and then "finds" the edge its…
Wow those LoL UVs look funky. Because i know they know how to straighten and do it. But maybe that standard was dropped eventually. The LoL texture up there looks really wasteful and one could probably get a lot more texel density by straightening and packing it better. There are many perks to straightening UVs in your…
