select that 5 sided pentagon and hit collapse, that should merge it to just 1 vert in the middle. also manually tweak the chamfered verts at the edges to make them follow a more smooth rounded path.

There is a lot of less than 90 degree angles that do not need separate smoothing groups. Look at these piece and think "can I merge these uv islands with minimal stretching?"

There are some free scripts around that will replace meshes automatically for you. You could also use the Merge command, there's an option to replace existing meshes with the same names, iirc.
