That's the best arenanet monster i've seen on polycount so far. Impressive. And the environment on this page is stunning -- the perspective is maybe a bit too obviously fudged, but the colors and sense of scale are amazing. I'd love to see the steps on this one, and maybe hear a bit about how you chose colors.
Finished up the low poly geometry - it's currently 7,756 triangles, which is probably a little excessive. I still need to go back and do some sculpting on the high-poly like Tea Monster suggested. As for now, it's time to do some unwrapping so I bake it later.
Adam: Invisible Monsters is also being made into a film, maybe you'll like that more? The trailer for this isn't really doing it for me, but I'll watch it anyway. Has anyone read Rant already? All the way through reading it, I thought "that'd probably make a good film".
hey pior, for another jolt of retro-stopmo fun, get a coupla pounds of plasticene and do some real-world morphing (aka "claymation"). my very first animation was in 8mm, clay monsters on the dining room table, a story probably common to many Harryhausen wannabees of the day
Yeah I could never find a copy of ICO, that and the original MONSTER HUNTER for PS2, which I bought for $60 - $70+ from ebay. Later I gave it to a friend since I wanted him to try it... and low and behold it's fucking gone, my fav game........... FML
[ QUOTE ] Morrowind characters. The rest of that game was awesome. [/ QUOTE ] Funny how things haven't changed I really enjoyed playing everquest2... That undeniably has the most inconsistant art ever. Some jaw-dropping, fantastic looking environments and monsters... LOTS of ugly, shite environments and characters
Thank you for another awesome write-up, Frank. So informative, and it's really great to be reminded to use modifiers and procedural geometry as much as possible to make the work easier. Thanks for that! You inspire me to do some more hard-surface modelling. Soon as my bad monster-sculpt is finished xD
Hello all. My name is Roy Suarez, I work a lot on Tv, and some character animation for games, nothing big, I love character animation for film specially if its monsters or strange in nature. I hape you all like my reel chears :) https://vimeo.com/218544278
It could be because there isn't anything in the scene yet to judge the scale, but the book looks kinda small to me. I would imagine a book powerful enough to summon a tentacle monster would be more like the image below. So many pages that when the book is open all the pages taper inwards.
