Necronomicon/Cthulhu scene

Trying to do some portfolio pieces so i thought i would make the necronomicon with tenticles bursting from it.

i started with this:

but i think i over did the sigilness so i toned it down with this that i think is better:

ive still got a lot to do with the texture and ect unfinshed so lots of C&C please!

Keep it up! I'd pose the book bent a lot more, with the spine lurching forward... angry.

It could be because there isn't anything in the scene yet to judge the scale, but the book looks kinda small to me. I would imagine a book powerful enough to summon a tentacle monster would be more like the image below. So many pages that when the book is open all the pages taper inwards.
