it working in other applications is no guarantee that the UVs aren't flipped - marmoset certainly handles it correctly. I don't personally know if arnold/maya does

This is possibley the WORST example. Arnold is NOT a great actor, he is a famous one. Arnold is not a great politician, he is a famous one. There is a HUGE difference between being great and being famous.
Can you get the same results with GPU rendering as CPU? I know there are some limitations for GPU renders.
