That sounds fun. The downside might be anything about the realistic env that's not 100% realistic VS not stylized about the stylized version would clearly standout more. However, if you nailed the execution it wouldn't be a problem.
Aww that's disappointing. Your portfolio is pretty good. What did you apply for? Concept Artist or Env Artist? Your concepts are much stronger in my opinion but your environment was still pretty good.

The eng spots seemed tight, and hard to defend. Eng forward bases need to be big enough to hold a few people, think of them as a gathering spot for a forward push. Like the sewers in 2-Fort. heye there.. if you want to make a portal like env then I would suggest to block out the whole thing, models and textures, before you start to think about the color tone of your floor tiles :)
