This the best solution, because if a mesh has nice curvy lines & surfaces I don't want to break their continuity, only on surfaces away from the sides. Also Spray sculpting the mask with FormSoft brush allows varied intensity along the model, which a simple Apply to Surface would not be able to achieve even if the noise…
the eye looks cool, but i would throw some noise in the bump chanel in the area that isnt the lens. this disrupts the surface and makes the reflection more realistic. check this pic for an example.. http://www.this-wonderful-life.com/close-ups03.htm the lens is the only part that really has a flat surface the rest is just…
If you're using Z3.5, try messing with the new surface noise stuff and a bit of masking/layers/morph brushing. You can get some very naturalistic surfaces very quickly with it. You'll need to play around with the noise curve a bit to get chunkier, chipped surfaces, but it doesn't take much tweaking to get something good…
I was wondering if there was an easyer method of adding holes to surfaces. I usualy create the shape of my hole with a seperate object, allign it to the surface and either create a boolean or pic the surface that i want the holes in and cut with vertex snap enabled around my shape. Bolean gives kind of crappy results, and…
Agree with DarthMaul. In this image you can see the contrast of the surface finish which is quite rough and how the highlights look when light bounces on curved surfaces. You can even make it look more shiny near places where the gun is handled and more matte where not. This would help breakup the overall look of the…
Not everybody has zbrush. They both can do the same thing. But with my plugin you will have the advantage of reversing only parts of your model. That is useful if you try to simplify a model to reduce polycount. I will try to add an option of reversing a mesh by surface angle. So it will only reverse flat surfaces. This…
Quick question on something I've been wondering awhile about the Intuos 4 (and 5, I guess) - can't you just flip over the surface mat to get a smooth surface if you prefer it? Assuming it's like the Intuos 3's, it just lifts off the surface and could be flipped without too much trouble. Are both sides textured?
Been busy with other stuff. Preliminary ZBrush sculpt: Not too happy with the surface texture of the head right now - if anyone has any suggestions for alphas or techniques for detailing metal surfaces, bring 'em on. Slightly happier with the wooden texture of the handle and the canvas straps of the grip, but still working…
I would recommend looking closely at real-world locations that use a lot of neon lighting, and try to replicate that look and feel. For example Ginza district in Tokyo comes to mind, especially the back streets which are not so intensely lit as the main streets. https://whenin.tokyo/Tokyo-s-Best-Backstreet-Alleys Remember…
I've got an asset that includes some metal surfaces and a glass surface. I looked through the docs on Layered Materials and through the available properties on the Material Functions I created. Even though "Make Material Attributes" has "Refraction", I don't see a way of having one Function be Glass (i.e. Blend Mode =…
