Yea I agree that art tests don't need to be automatic. One big reason to have an art test is if your studio is doing a different style of art than the main body of work in the applicants portfolio. Then you want to see if they'll be able to hit the ground running and adapt to your style.
Finished this art test late 2020 for thatgamecompany in Unreal. Got me onto the interviews. I feel really good about this. Really pushed me to scramble and cobble together tech art solutions to get this all into one nice diorama. And yes, those birds are ALL flapping at the same time. I didn't notice cuz I am terrible at…
just wondering if it would be wise to put an art test that turned out good into my portfolio? I wasn't sure if there was some sort of etiquette involved with these things. Thanks!
An important question to ask is why you need to present an ART portfolio for a DESIGN degree? Designers don't take an art test when applying to a studio, they take a design test, it involves writing. So the most important skills are creativity and communication.
Thanks guys! @Graze: yeah I wish I had more time to focus on that for the art test but I will be spending a whole day on lighting and post processing once I get the review on my art test! More updates soon.
Yep, it definitely happens. ND, from my experience, took about 3 weeks to respond. Though, they were handing out art tests like candy at the time, so often getting an art test really doesn't mean anything.
Hi guys ! Does anybody know what kind of art-test can be given to junior animator? Is there any basics that he should be able to do ? Would be grateful if someone will tell us about his experience of geting a job as a 3d animator. Thanks in advance ;)
