Thanks! That was a wonderful brief! I'm considering the moving track texture approach. Many examples in portfolios and games still use that method. U said the tank should be more than 10000 tris (5000 quads). So I guess I should limit mysef to 15000 tris? As for decals, how do u think I should make them? A seperate flat… -

Progress in forearm: I will remove or fix that bevel in top surface. Doesn't look good. There are also terrible n-gons in high poly, but don't care cause they don't show up in normal map. I changed my poly budget from 2000 to 5000-7000. -
Character: Umagon Mutant Queen for C&C mod
I'm modelling and texturing Umagon from Command and Conquer for the mod entitled C&C:Reborn. Right now she weighs in at about 1800 tris, max polycount is at 2000-2500 so i may add more detail. I'd like crits if at all possible. Thanks! -

Most of our fighter spacecraft come somewhere around 500 polies, with a texture of around 512x512, some of our larger units can be up to 5000 polies, with 4096x4096. The majority of our units fall somewhere in the middle, say 2000 polies with 2048x2048. All with specular and normal maps. -

At 2000~2500 triangles for the shield (assuming it's doublesided) that's not exactly lowpoly. This thread is for things under 1000 triangles, although there are exceptions for large scenes/groups. Generally for single characters/items, such as a round shield, if it's over 1000 tris, it doesn't belong here, but in WAYWO or… -

It is a bit above 600 tris in my opinion, but everything depends on the other parameters too. Like neither its 10 or 600 or 5000 tris, it will be free if you use simple mat and acceptable texture res, but it will be super expensive if you add a material to it that use 2000 instructions, or if you add 8k textures. -

SSD+Win7 will add a nice noticeable difference to the overall "snappiness" of your system, I did that with my Intel Q6600/8gb system(was using xp 64 previously) Upgrading to 8GB is a good idea too, esp if you're going to win7 64 bit. I would do SSD+Win7+new ram as a "quick fix" but you're still going to be looking at a… -

Oh i get it. That is awsome! Now I just need 2500 dollars, 2000 for the full Maya, and 500 for ZBrush Thank you, this really makes me understand why so many people use it . i just need to get a model I can zBrush, test out the free trial, and see how much i will like it -

However, unit like the Thor have 8k polies." His large hat covers too much of the character from an rts view.
