Objects act as light sources when ray tracing is enabled, all you need to do is give them an emissive material. Emissive materials require quite a few samples to resolve though, so you may need to increase your sample count for good quality renders.
Hi, I really don't work with UE some time ago, but in general if you look for a god-ray ambient light, you may utilise a/some plane/s with transparency texture that simulate clouds obstruction for a sun light (direct light) or a spot light with a texture map. In general this is the most simple way to achieve god-ray…
Because he is able to play his blu-ray, with audio, I don't think he has a bad system setting... assuming he's using the PS3 for blu-ray. The PS3 has an audio setting for which output to use. I guess it's still worth a check though. Andreas, see if you can borrow an HDMI cable from a friend. Typically the HDMI cables…
The Wild West | DAY IV Progress ------------------------------------------------- Hello everybody! Its my 4th day. and i came back with 3 finished models. A Gun Store, a Bath House and a Hotel. It was a exhausting but very productive day. Also i had a decision about my scene. I said i'll try to revise all the assets by…
sltrOlsson- Thanks :) I didn't really feel the flats were anything particularly impressive aside from the painterly style Windmill environment. My next piece, whatever it may be, will be sure to give textures the love that they need. Similar to the love that you seem to give your textures. Doing this process should also…
Also...... don't forget about possibly needing more computers or some sort of a mini-server farm to render out animations if you're doing 3D. I currently only render out on my singular ASUS laptop that I bring into work so I'm basically forced to use lower quality materials/stylize everything and use the cheaper/quicker…
@japhir: tanks for the boost man. i'm hoping i can keep up the pace on these sketches and back too the "one a day" type of thing. so here's jack asstronaught, one of my characters that's stuck with me for a while. he's in space (hence the space beer) and everyone in the universe has become a bounty hunter so it gets a…
Sorry, but you may have missed the point of my post entirely. That aside, you have posted the NM but you haven't posted images of your uvs, your low/high poly (I've no idea what you mean by rough/smooth parts of the model) or the rendered result of the map applied to the model. I only ask these things as the more…
Yes sir, the plants are paintFX rendered in maya with mental ray. I used techniques learned from Alex Alvarez's gnomon dvd, creating plants in maya and mental ray, so they were converted to polys and have mia material applied to them with translucency and alphas for the leaves. The water is a simple plane with a bump map…
Looks good so far, keep it up Not quite sure what's going on with the chin-strap on the hat, looks like it's just glued onto the side there... maybe a little button or rivet holding it on would look better? As for the distortion on the normal-map there, it's actually got nothing to do with how you lay out the UV-maps,…
