Frezno, 4 sides don't make a circle! :P Great render :) Edit: in case anybody new to the 3D modeling is wondering it, (so, I'm not talking with you Frezno, it's clear you know what you are doing) here's a visual explanation to the 4 sides issue for the circle:
Great Example, I applied this recently to Week 2 Challenge, The big circles I went with a 8 sided cylinder but there was a very tiny circle cut out near the screws. The topology presented itself nicely to a 4 sided cylinder (cube) Although if you do run into situations where you are using a-lot of 6 or even a couple 4…
Just wondering on how you guys are managing to embed the hexagon with the correct division including the chamfers on the circle with no topological issues. I have a problem where I make the screw threading then can't find a way to create the actual 'bolt' part.
I just start with a multiple of 6 ( 12, 18, 24, etc) and use this method to form the circle into a hex: http://i.imgur.com/VNSu2AO.gif The more sides you have, the more scaling you have to do and fiddle with it. Idk about all this math Odd_enough is talking about. :D
Updated my post. Ahh I see, so you can actually just lead the supporting edges away from the main edge then shift their vertices into the correct position. Sweet, as far as defining the edges main edges that need to be defined, do I have that right? (starting with a proper circle and forming the hex afterwards seems easier…
Having fun with this one, There are some clear changes I need to make, missing a few holes. I don't think I"m going to put the bolts in the model. I am having a difficult time with the edges inside of the two holes on the top. (I've actually got to re do those, they're not circles, they're more ovals) . Oteherwise, having…
Great idea on the small circles on the back in using squares, I just used a 6 sided sphere cut in half. I do like how your square pads came out, by looking at yours wires it doesn't seem to tricky to pull off (I just found that some areas it disturbs my topology) Not sure if you saw my other post I posted a 360 rotating…
JurassicPerk, absolutely know what you meant with the size references. Dunno if it's the same issue you ran into, but when I made the mesh the sticking parts with the holes (in the base, the ones you marked as '15' units) were too long and I had to pull the whole thing down, but just using the scale tool would mess the…
Hey Jed, Modelling in Maya can be a bit of a pain compared to Max or MODO but these are a few things I picked up that help :) There are a couple of really useful "tools" that aren't first apparent in Maya, one of which is the Slide Edge tool under the Edit Mesh menu :) Once clicked you can select an edge to slide your…
Hey guys! Looking to get a little better at modeling challenging and complex shapes? Do you frequently have trouble with tricky geometry, and need to up your game? Just bored at work and want to kill some time? Well, You're in the right place! In 'The Weekly Hard Surface Challenge' complex and challenging geometry will be…
